Comment:

another mix made for a friend's birthday, as it seems like there's another birthday rolling around everytime i open my eyes; never-the-less, i decided to make a mix to commemorate the occasion for said friend. we've grown apart over the years but neither of us ever forget a birthday, so i made sure not to be too sloppy or careless with this one. i actually think it turned out really well & it's one of my recent favorites, truth be told. it came together in scraps & the final product looks totally different from the original draft, sans a few cuts that provided the country-tinged/folky foundation to begin with. the rest of the tracks came from an entirely different mix that i scrapped because it turned out awful, made for someone hoping that they'd forget i ever promised them one. however, there were quite a few songs worth saving (even if the overall product was trash); so facing the dilemma of feeling that there was something missing from this mix, i took the saving grace factors from the aforementioned aborted mix & came up with two halves that created a perfect whole. in the end, it's a heavy country & folk affair with some indie pop & indie rock edge thrown in for good measure. hopefully this gets to her in time for her birthday, as i feel it's definitely worthy of the occasion. title from the ryan adams tune.

revision, 4/23/07: recently, i took on the task of making myself copies of all the mixes i've made over the past year or so; while relistening to this particular mix, i found i was unsatisfied with the flow towards the second half, due to a few faulty song choices (notably the led zeppelin & radiohead tracks). i took it upon myself to append "that's the way" with "tangerine" & "black star" with "sulk," & i found the finished result is much more to my liking.

I really love the opening four and the closing two. Personally I'm not into country but you have some fine pop jems in here to mix it up nicely.

I especially love the Vaselines, Rod Stewart, Lucinda and McCartney (not the Ringo) Beatles track...
