Comment:

Two hours and 43 minutes after the year 2001 descended upon the west coast, I decided upon 16 songs that have influenced me as a musical person from birth up until that exact moment in time. As a result, some are fairly recent -- I had only heard the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion album that "Eyeballin" comes from the day before I included it on the list -- but some are timeless classics. It is worth noting two things. 1) Not all of these songs inspire emotion; some are songs I just admire, which I enjoy witnessing the craft of their creation and performance, or even simply the sound of them. That being said, 2) I have not listened to the piece by A Silver Mt. Zion that closes the disc without either crying or falling under a hypnotic spell of awe.
