Comment:

End of year round up time and I wanted to do something a teeny bit different so I gathered my favourite cover versions of the year (granted one or two might have been originally released at the tail end of 2005) Although this year wasn't to my mind an especially wonderful year for music it did happen to throw up some lovely versions of a few of my favourite songs of all time which I have included in this mix. These interpretations are pretty much all done in an acoustic laid back style and it makes for a pretty nice chilled listen. Surely there is nobody on the board who doesnt know and like at least 3 of the originals of these songs and I'm even more certain there are several of you who know every single one. Enjoy and happy holidays to everybody.

Unsurprisingly enough, this looks most excellent - love all the versions that I've heard (for the record, that's the Adey, Witmer and Boy Omega tracks), and the rest of it looks equally great. Looking forward to hearing this - at least this'll solve my dilemma of having been curious about that version of "Famous Blue Raincoat" for a while, yet scared to listen to it because well, that song's perfect already.

I know none of the versions you proudly display here. Most of the songs I know, although I don't think I've heard Fade To Black. I've heard Fade To Grey though, will that do? Looking forward to hearing this immensely...

looking forward to the listen, Barry. I, too, know many of the originals but not these versions. and I love The Czars, but certainly haven't heard them covering Patsy Cline before.

According to yousendit, File sender has exceeded his or her download limit. There is no question why that would be - this looks great.

To be honest with you, I'm not a big fan of any of the artists here that I know, but I'm sure you've picked worthy covers (knowing your fine taste in tunes).

This looks very good indeed.I know a fair number of the songs and none of these particular versions. I do know The Czars version of Song To The Siren which I approached thinking what's the point? There are already two great versions, and was blown away by it's brilliance. I will give this a listen as soon as I get a chance.

I gazed at this tracklist, with tremulous unease. I downloaded and turned me old ears in tentative fashion mixward... I need not of worried. It's a Barrydali for Christ's sake! Thoroughly enjoyable and filled with all the requisite quirks one could ask for. Go on with your bad self, Barry. You still da man!

Mixward Ho! Afraid I am commenting without a listen here, but it looks damn interesting, to say the least. Do have a look at the 'Copy, Right?' blog for some consistently fun/interesting covers.

unsurprisingly barry I know zilch but I know the majority of the originals which I suspect would make a good mix in itself.

Nice! And a great spin on the end-of-the-year mix. Plus, a lot of fantastic takes on songs here, and some I never even knew existed. Really like the Josh Ritter and Kind Of Like Spitting. Well done.
