Comment:
This here is my second collaboration
with Mark Petruccelli,
and once again we started out with a cover image &
then layered the tunes around it
- in this case the cover pic as you can see pretty much dictated a SAXOPHONE sound,
and that of course is right up Mark's alley
( -- did you know he was voted People Magazine's "Saxiest Man of the Year" 3 years running?)
-- so Mark supplied the class acts, & I did my best to lower the overall tone a little with some funky honky favorites of my own.
The resulting blend is almost all sax instrumentals with a few shouts thrown in for local color.
I had some doubts as we were going along that I was going to mess up the high standards Mark was shooting for,
but asI listen now to the final result I'm just blown away how well all these
different sax styles rub up against each other. I don't think I can put it any better than David Twa did in his
poem "Saxophone" :
Glittering blood red
With a black
Leather strap
You can smell its song
Harmonious
Musty cigars
Peppery liquor
Sad
And Jazzy

Feedback:
Once again, had a blast with the illustrious Mr. De Vivre in putting together a wide pallette of honkers, growlers, boppers, swingers, jumpers and smooth cool cats.
As extensive as I thought my sax tune collection was, Jeff only supplied one tune I knew, none that I owned nad introduced me to hals a dozen artists I had never heard, How we managed to get Boots Randolph, Chaelie Parker, Bullmoose Jackson and Eddie Chamblee on one disc and keep it flowing is beyond me but somehow it really works. Once again, a pleasure good sir.

This looks like a ton o' fun.
A damn formidable partnership, this looks great naturally.
Excellent work guys. Fine cover art. A happy New Year to the both of you..
Nothing sax-ceeds like sax-cess and you guys have sax-ceeded wonderfully.
Looks mighty good to me! Great collaboration...
Great stuff - you nailed it. Happy New Year!
This one has real sax appeal (oh Jeez, forgive me).
Looks like all the good sax puns have already been claimed. I'll just say this looks like an excellent collaborative effort, guys. Bleeding Gums Murphy would be proud.
hey, you forgot Quarterflash! (wait. I may have already used that joke. in any case, I'm working on some new material for '07.) this looks like a terrific collaboration, a nice way to sing in the new year. Happy '007 to you both.
This looks like a marvelous collaboration. I've been on a Lucky Millinder kick lately, and after reading this tracklist I've decided to name my first child Illinois Jacquette.
This mix "blows" quite nicely!
Very classy! Oh & Orchid I do think we should talk about it!
Great collaberation.
