Comment:
The Valisian Psycle: An ongoing series of mixes inspired by (and in Tribute to) Valis; a means of saying "thank you" for his tireless promotion of present-day psychedelic music and for the numerous psychedelic publication recommendations he has made during the time I have come to know him. This installment came together purely by accident. As I began compiling the multitude of tracks for this project, I began noticing a surprising phenomenon: a number of the tracks within this sub-genre utilize field recordings of birds and/or crickets. Which got me thinkin', what would be like to sequence these back-to-back-to-back...etc? I set out to find out. After reviewing the library of tracks, in turned out that the trick was to get the tracks aranged in manner which sounds "natural". What I wound up was as close to a dawn to dusk transition; chirping birds to noon day atmospherics to nightfall crickets, ALL set as backdrop to some fantastic neo-psychedelic folk and pop.In all, it turns out that some mix's which come together by chance can very well be stronger than those from staunch design.Enjoy!Feedback:
This looks absolutely amazing.
Are you sure it wasn't just Andrew Bird doing his bird imitations again? (-: Anyway, hyper-cool idea for a mix, sort of a way of adding ambient concepts to a psych mix. Great stuff, gnome.
Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep chirp! I was just listening to the opener yesterday as a potential inclusion for a mix I'm currently working on (slowly)This mix makes me feel like a sparrow next to your canary.Great to see Candidate on a mix too though.
Spectacular series and a fitting tribute to one of the true greats of AOTM land. Great stuff, gnome!
The series goes from strength to strength. 5, 6, 10, 14 & 15 I'm digging..
Looks fantastic to me
Great stuff (judging from the little that I know). Chirpy Cheep Cheep indeed!
this an awesome series Sir Gnome
Clearly the power that is valis was channeled through you, to the segues, creating a holistic, auditory gestalt.
or something.
or something.
This one is my favorite so far.
Wow - what a series!
Great stuff!
THE VALISIAN PSYCLE KNOWS NO END!!! (and I mean that as a complement to both of you)
Absolutely impressive - both concept & sequencing. Keep up the quality, Mr Gnome...
