Comment:
I have always, always held a special place in my heart for murder ballads, specifically the ones set down by the water. I started compiling these songs one day a while back, inspired primarily by the Neil Young track. For one reason or another I set it aside and it wasn't until I recently heard the b-side "Culling Of The Fold" and the lovely new Tom Waits song that I decided to put the rest of it together. Several of the songs are variations on the same stories. I thought about including "Henry Lee," but the most popular version of the song has the title character's body tossed in a well rather than the river. Shucks.. At any rate, the Everly Brothers tune is a personal favorite.Feedback:
Big fan of the murder ballad (see: Menace - Part VII: All Aboard The Hell-bound Train for verification of said fact). This looks fantastic and highlights a number of songs I hadn't noted with this sub-sub-genre. Thanks for this!
Some really good stuff here, like musicgnome there are a few that I hadn't really listened to in this light before. Well done.
Splendid. Love the Burl Ives inclusion.
Goes good with that breakfast serial.
looks good -- "this night has opened my eyes" by the smiths might work, as well...
Excellent mix.
I love murder ballads, and thus I love this mix (logical, no?)
"Down By The River" is the greatest thing to ever grace humanity.
Not your everyday theme. Nice work.
Great themed mix you've put together here.
Murder ballads. <3
