Comment:

A Frankenstein mix, following the original guidelines including "song order up to you" and "title = cool movie quote". (The title words appear on the door of the Brain Depository in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.) **** NOTES ABOUT SOURCES: All songs are from garden variety commercially released CDs. Two possibly obscure ones: "Meet the Mets" by Yo La Tengo is on YO LA TENGO IS MURDERING THE CLASSICS which is available exclusively from Yo La Tengo's website, so all sales proceeds flow directly into Yo La Tengo's bulging coffers and help to support their depraved rock star lifestyles. The HAIR selection is from the 1967 off-Broadway version, not the better-known '68 Broadway one or the film soundtrack. The '67 HAIR is included on the 2-disc HAIR DELUXE EDITION. It's less show-tuney and (to my ears) way less irritating than the Broadway version. **** COMMENTS ON SOME OF THE SONGS: Dating myself here: I remember the whole family gathering 'round the hi-fi in 1968 (when I was five) to listen to my uncle's reel-to-reel tape copy of the off-Broadway HAIR. **** Bobby Short's "I Happen To Like New York" qualifies as another "song I discovered from a film": it plays at the start of MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTERY **** I'm not "embarrassed" about liking Jimmy Durante (or any other music) but I wouldn't subject most people to his vaudevillian shtick. To quote FAMILY GUY: "Careful with that joke, it's an antique!" **** Opening lines of "Black Mountain Blues": "Down in Black Mountain a child will smack your face, babies crying for liquor and all the birds sing bass. Black Mountain people are bad as they could be, they uses gunpowder just to sweeten their tea " **** There aren't enough songs about JAMES K. POLK.
