Like a good number of people, I've become fascinated with the Anna Nicole Smith case. I mean - c'mon - how can you stay on the sidelines when Zha-Zha Gabor's husband pops up? Frankly, up until her death, Anna Nicole was on the periphery of my pop culture radar screen. I really didn't give a crap about her. But for some reason this circus that's cropped up after her tragic death has really caught my attention. I suppose this is a fairly normal reaction. But when the I saw the video of her on Youtube a couple nights ago with Anna Nicole in clown makeup and apparently completely oblivious to it, I think something snapped in me. Maybe it's my innate fear of clowns (a rational fear, just ask John Wayne Gacy), but my interest in the case turned into obsession. For some reason, I found myself creating an Anna Nicole mix. I think subconsciously this mix is a way to exorcise this Ann-Nicole Clown Demon that's in my head. The last two songs are sort of a coda to the sequence, and are meant to lighten things up a bit (Waters can be such a downer) with some gallows humor and a nod to Britney Spears, who currently seems to be headed for the same fate as Anna Nicole.

I'm with you on Anna Nicole Smith. Until her death, I barely cared about her. Now, I feel like I never paid her enough attention. This mix definitely registers as an essential piece of the collective mourning/headscratching for me. (All who think Anna Nicole was killed by aliens raise their hand.) Hilarious to end it with that Richard Thompson piece of audio vTritT, and glad to see Warren Zevon -- though I wonder if, actually, "The French Inhaler" wouldn't have made a better choice? ("How ya gonna make your way in the world woman, if you weren't cut out for workin'...")
I actually have managed to avoid the whole ANS circus but now you;ve piqued my interest .. Damn You! (Gotta at least check out Richard Thompson's cover.) BTW, AOL had Bald Britney next to Bald Sinead ... is Britney the ugliest bald chick ever?
