Comment:
I foolishly volunteered to put together a soundtrack to Wuthering Heights for a group of people who were reading it,
and this is what I came up with. I'm not totally satisfied with it, as it somewhat reinforces the popular view of W H as a
romantic ballad of doomed love, whereas the actual book is a totally demented tale of back-country craziness, puppy-killing, necrophilia,
hallucinations, bitter revenge, religious mania, ghosts, lying, and a whole binfull of psychoses.
The problem is, I just couldn't find any really catchy songs about necrophilia or dog-strangling, so I had to fall back on a lot of
the movie-version tragic lost love stuff -- of which there is NO shortage in pop music! Came out pretty good, for what it is, but I may
try
for an improved revised version someday.
Mixxer
suggested the White Stripes' "Little Ghost", which is a good idea but I didn't have it on hand in time for the CD handout, so - maybe
next time. {Oh, and many thanks to RetroJoe for providing young Hareton's theme song: "Cathy's Clown".)

Free copy to the first person who matches this Wuthering Heights-related verse with the track it came from - (not too difficult, eh!)
Now all my fathers, they've gone down
True love they've been without it.
But all their daughters put me down
'Cause I don't think about it.
Feedback:
Now your gonna have me digging for necrophilia and dog strangling tunes. Neat project. Love 4,5,8-10,13-18 and 22-25.
Oh God, I did a mix like this for Mrs. Dalloway and it literally reduced me to tears. Nice choices for a great book.
looks fantastic -- love 4, 8, 9, 10, 14, 16, 21, 22, & 24 particularly -- & i am stunned that i haven't heard that costello-on-beatles cover. how is that possible? i'd love to hear this.
oh, & the lyrics are from dylan's "i want you." easy enough.

Awesome rendition of the novel into 26 songs! While I am pretty impressed all the way through, that 3/4/5 ... ow! DAMN! Do it again!!
looks great, classic stuff but not overplayed at all

Hmm... you know, i've always hated "Wuthering Heights" the book. I remember I had to read it in 10th grade and the "back-country craziness" as you say was on the point of making me crazy. so one suggestion for this side of "Wuthering Heights": NICK CAVE... check out his song "Hallelujah".
This is really unbelievable, joey. Really, really breathtaking and great. What can I do to get a copy? I'm with the 'gnome on the MotW nomination.
Super! If Exhibits were working, this would get an honored place in The Reading Room.
People just don't wuther like they used to, but this will show the way.

A noble venture, executed with wit and erudition
You've reached new heights with this one. Lots of lovely stuff, old friend.
The Perfect Soundtrack to the Perfect story. Excellent.
Excellent.
Totally amazing.
We are trying desperately to make this MotW, but AotM is not letting us get to the proper page to do so.... (Btw, SwankQueen would very much like a copy but can't e-mail you to request this.)
Ahh, the book that turned me on to literature, for all the psychodramatic reasons you mentioned. Looks fantastic.
This is very cool. Congratulations on a much deserved MotW.
Absolutely fantastic! What a great theme and wonderful picks - like Mark said I'm going to be on the lookout for dog-strangling and necrophilia tunes now - will let you know if I find any :) Congrats on MotW too!
great lookin' mix & congrats for motw!
Congrats! Looks great.
This is crackin' Joey, and congrats on MotW. If you're the least bit interested in actually doing a mix about "back-country craziness, puppy-killing, necrophilia, hallucinations, bitter revenge, religious mania, ghosts, lying, and a whole binfull of psychoses," I'd be delighted to collaborate, and I'd probably kick it off with my fave rave necrophilia song: "Cemetary Girls" by Barnes & Barnes (of Fishheads fame), and of course we'd somehow have to coordinate a long-distance, a-tonal, a capella recording of the two of us doing "Dead Puppies."
I cannot hear that Mickey & Sylvia song enough, I really can't.

Great mix. You might try Alison Kraus's version of "Baby, Now That I Have You" for a similar feel. Excellent stuff- congrats on Mix of the Week.
Well-deserved MOTW, Sir!!
Great book and spot-on summary of it- shame there's no songs about puppy-killing. Fine mix anyway...
Nice indeed!
Excellent execution. Ages since I read the book, tho. Congrats on MOTW!
How do you listen to the music? Thanks in advance
great mix. and theres "necrophilia", by gbh if you truly want a song on necrophilia. they also have a neat tune about lycanthropy :)
Cathy Earnshaw was a foolish and irritating woman, and yet...and yet. Track 24 resonates profundity in my secret life. As they say, Joey: you did good...
That's just part of what may possibly be my favorite Dylan song..."I want you".
fantastic
