Comment:

this is kind of a pick-me-up mix for a very, very close friend of mine who's going through a pretty rough time -- including a potential divorce, among other hardships. the amazing thing about this is just how wonderfully it hangs together & flows between songs, which is something i went through several different incarnations to perfect. my original approach was to fill it with a bunch of peppy, bubbly songs, but quickly realizing that the last thing i want to hear -- & subsequently what irritates me the most -- when i'm feeling down is happy music, i quickly eschewed that idea for something a bit introspective, slightly melancholy, yet ultimately uplifting. seeing as me & her tend to be soul-kin in an uncanny way, i figured this would hit the spot & do her some good during these trying times. i really hope this does something to help her mood, as she's one of the best friends i've ever had & i love her to death. hope you all enjoy, as well.

i should probably mention a thank you to rob c. -- & anybody else who was listening to & used him on a mix -- for the jarvis cocker track. even as a pulp fan, i'm a bit skeptical at best with solo outings, & it wasn't until i heard everybody's praise that i decided to check him out. in the end, his album ended up being one of my favorites from 2006.

title is from the velvet underground tune.

p.s. i realize i've been annoying unprolific around here lately, but i've got four or so mixes in progress right now, so keep an eye out for my imminent "return."

If those four mixes you're working on all end up as good as this one, I fear you might cause some inferiority complexes! I don't see how this could possibly fail to cheer up your friend, well done!

"and anytime you feel the pain" just go out a make a mix like this. A very nice thing to do for a friend and a very nice mix. As far as I know life does not give you bonus points for frequency of mixes. Mix on.

Yeah, this oughta do the trick. The opener, the Morrison / Adams / Dylan / Waits / Cocker run, the VU and the Beatles picks all jump out at me (in an introspective way)

Yeah, a hats-in-the-air success. Nothing like 'These Days' when you're feeling blue. Lovely stuff.

This mix would put a smile on my face. Heck, I smile just thinking of the sing-a-long on Hey Jude. Well done.
