Comment:

On my merry way around some of my old haunts on St. Patricks day this year, I bumped into an old school friend of mine that I havent seen in over a decade and had a few beers while deconstructing the old days.

The conversation inevitably turned soon to music and he brought up a mix that I had made for him around 15 years ago that remarkably he still listens to regularly. With my ego obviously massaged, I asked him to bring the cassette back to me and I would attempt to recreate the 90 minutes over two discs to replace his worn out TDK tape. Memories flooded back when the next day he showed up with the damn thing still with its original cover art. I wish I had a scanner to show it on here for the sake of authenticity, not that it was good, quite the contrary but it evokes great memories for me.

So here it is in all its glory. The only real surprise to me is the lack of Sonic Youth as I seem to be wearing a SY t-shirt in every single photo of the time! I havent touched the segues but obviously I wanted to as some aren't too hot but that's not what this is about. It is a document of sorts.

Oh and sorry if you clicked on this expecting punk and are alarmed at the lack of it, as far as I can recall it was a reference to an "in-joke" at the time or some such...

My my, we had similar tastes 15 years ago. Some great memories here.. JaMC, MBV, Lemonheads and the entire second side were all floating my boat in '92. Great stuff. If a link is not forthcoming I reckon I may put this together for myself...

Still looks fresh after all those years. I think 1992 was the year that my parents bought a CD player for my older brother and me (we shared a room) for Christmas and I was pissed because what did I need a CD player for? Why would I ever want to listen to music? Ahem. I did catch on to a lot of these bands a little later, though.

Thanks for speaking frankly! The deconstruction of Barrydali works wonderfully here. What's the drop date for the box set?

it's great to find an old collection of music you made years ago. Galaxie 500, This Mortal Coil, My Bloody Valentine, Mudhoney, Nick Cave, A.R. Kane, Pale Saints, Ride... I remember all these blasting from my car stereo in Provo, UT - where I was living at the time, unfortunately. I think we can all agree that we need to see these photos of you as a sonic youth in '92.

I knew this guy who use to make Sonic Youth mixtapes and use to leave them on buses... I always wonder if anyone got into them that way or if they just re-recorded over it.
Anyway, real good looking mix. You had/have quite the good taste in music.
Here's my oldest mix that I have found.

Except for the Nick Cave, I didn't get turned on to most of these bands until much later. This does indeed still stand up.

15 years ago I listened to Arena/Prog Rock and Metal (and very little else). You had me beat by miles.

This is really cool - and a great story to go with it. Love just about everything on here, and the ending's great. I'm sure your mixes will be just as memorable another 15 years from now!

This mix is a good'un! Holding up quite nicely after a decade and a 1/2, this tape contains many of the cornerstones for today's alt rock genres. If no one is checking for a legal ISIC than I'll raise a glass to this one!

Great story - a mix that has truly, and deservedly, stood the test of time.

This is friggin' fanastic. I looks a lot like what was on my musical plate at the time, as well.
