Comment:
Minted October 9, 2002. Yeah, it's a little sentimental and idiocyncratic, given that many of these songs are specifically directed at the romantic situation of the moment ... But who's really judging? Things to not be missed if you don't know them, the Mason Williams cut was a big deal on the Smothers Brothers show back in the day, Collister's version of the Thompson song is great, and really, for the younger amongst you, the John Mayall record is beyond terrific. As it turns out, I am a junkie for Derek and the Dominoes. I am only sorry the name of this songs does not do any justice to passion with which it was written and is performed ... "Do you wanna see me crawl across the floor?/do you wanna see me beg you to take me back?/ I don't want to fade away ..." (And yes the Brian Kennedy is almost like putting on the three tenors ... but it worked at the time.)And the Willie Nelson album, Teatro, is wonderful. This cut has one of those heart-breaking Emmylou harmonies to really drive you to drinnk.Feedback:
1-5 is superb as is 15-16.
Cool! Was wondering when you'd be mixing again. Great stuff here. Assume Cassandra's is an English version of "Aguas do Marto"? #19 reminds me that I was much into that Joan Armatrading album back in the day.
Hey Sally, nice to see you mixin'. So much to love here. Just a great collection. I just had The Turning Point spinning last week and put Room To Move on a mix to be posted soon.
bring on more flashbacks like this. chock full o favorites.
i must've missed this when i commented on the last one -- & my, do i regret it. this is absolutely phenomenal -- love the van morrison, derek & the dominos, zombies, beatles & leonard cohen songs particularly. pretty hard to pick favorites out of such a uniformly strong bunch though...
Great stuff - love the opening suite (it's SUH-weet).
Another winner.
Haven't seen many mixes from you since I stumbled across Planet AotM, Sally. But from this I can see why you're held in such high regard. Excellent mix. More!
Don't need an excuse to drive me to drink Sally! Raising me glass to you fer this one though.
Top drawer! 8 & 18 wonderful.
John Forrester is a friend and I've seen him live many a time. Lanterns is a great song. I really must put him on one of my mixes.
