Comment:
I made this mix for a couple of gfs (girl friends) who live in the Bay Area and don't always get around to anything very alternative (by their standards, not AOTM Splitters standards). This is mostly an introduction to people I think they'd like that they wouldn't trip over in their musical meanderings (such as they might be). It's kind of an aural version of a chick flick. Not necessarily without entertainment value or substance, but mostly not too challenging. That said, there is some lovely music well worth checking out here. The first three are all great male vocals. Fred Neil was a contemporary of Dylan and that crowd and has a remarkably low, growly voice. Very unique. (I think Rob turned me on to him.) Paul Burch is part of the Lambchop collective and has a modern-day Bob Wills-ish voice. One of my current (for the past year) favorites. If you don't know what a beautiful voice Raul Malo has, you are missing something (which sometimes his material is, too). Roy Orbison almost lives. The girls are the girls. Either you like that kind of music or no. And Aaron Neville is always in good taste. The Sexsmith cover gives Bing Crosby a run for his (not unsubstantial) money.Feedback:
some cool stuff here, they should dig this for sure -- love the fred neil & beulah tracks especially
Very nice.
Lots of good stuff for your gfs. If they don't know Neko yet it is high time.
the title sucks them in, the music sells itself. very nice.
I love the fact that you sue parentheses about as much as I do.
Anyways good job
Anyways good job
beautiful
Always a fan of the parenthetical remark (and this mix).
Excellent!
Ditto Mixxer on the Neko comment. Nicely nudged.
Super duper. Nice to see Fred and Neko together at last.
Very nice collection. Particularly like the Fred Neil, Ida, Neko Case, and GLS picks and that Raul Malo does have a heavenly voice.
You're so cool - havin' friends in the 'Bay Area' - I know absolutely nothing on this mix - a few names I recognize though!
Sweet.
This looks very sweet, indeed, Sally. I especially love the Mr. Neil (you're welcome), the Scuds, Brendan Benson and Neko picks.
Christ this is good. Love the Neko Case, Brendan Benson, Beulah, Scud Mountain Boys and the Sexsmith closer.
So so many highlights, brilliant mix.
Great stuff (what I know anyway). I'll have to check out Fred Neil...
Wonderful!
This looks pretty wicked.
