Comment:

let me first say this: i hate summer; i hate the heat, i hate the humidity, i hate outdoor sports, i hate swimming pools, i hate drunken parties, i hate the beach, i hate everything associated with it. however, everyone around me - my girlfriend, my family, my friends - loves this treacherous season, so i figured i might as well slap on a smile, stick it out & try to enjoy it, & this was the result. i may not be crazy about the summer, but in some twisted turn of events, i am pretty crazy about breezy, sunny pop music; it shows too, as this includes mostly sunny psych-pop, with some garage-punk & a few dusty country/folk gems thrown in for good measure. i know, i know: there's nothing revelatory here, little that's obscure & plenty that's downright obvious - but i'll be damned if it ain't a terrifically fun listen, created in attempt to thwart the incipient 90 degree temperatures that are on the horizon from ruining my mood.

title from the elliott smith song; yes, i realize it isn't a very summery title, but i loved the line so much that i just had to use it, whether it's fitting to the tunes or not. enjoy.

I think that Elliott Smith line is a love/hate one. I happen to fall on the hate side, even though I really like the song.6-10 looks like the best run of songs to me.

"Breezy, sunny pop music" is great any time of year. But your songs are definitely summery so i see that in spite of yourself you are getting into that summer groove. Fire up the barbeque and play this mix loud.

Hmmm... never heard the VU, Dylan, Ramones, Johnny Cash and the Clash referred to as Sunny Pop Music before. Some great stuff on here, particularly the opener.

like an indoor sun lamp, this is. very nice, especially the Iron & Wine. you should move to Seattle. as usual here in June, after just a few warm and sunny days it's back to rain and high temps of 58 degrees. personally, I love it.

This is what summer's all about for me: the good vibes. I don't really go for typical summer activities either (although who can resist a good swim?), mostly because I'm a total dork, but I love the concept and tone of summer, and it's often so wonderfully captured in song. Despite your resistance to the season, you have a natural appreciation for and understanding of its essence as this terrific music shows - seriously, "Down in the Valley", Fun Trick Noisemaker-era Apples, that now famous Big Star track, I could single out every song on here (except, indeed, maybe Elliot Smith but only because it doesn't quite belong in this company) for its excellent placement. This looks like ear-y bliss; enjoy it while it lasts!

Couldn't agree more with Barry re Elliott and I can't stand Dylan, can't knock the rest though. I love summer but to be honest I'm gonna be so busy totally rennovating the house this summer I'm already wishing it was winter, at least by then I'll have finished the bloody work and can relax a little.

This sounds like good fun for whenever. What I dislike most about the summer, besides those "dog's mouth days" is the urgent need to sound like you're having a great time no matter what. NYC is pretty darn fun in the summer with an amazing amount of great music, but sometimes, it's just too darn hot ... and ya need somethin' cool, like this here mix!

I always thought it was the pH level in utero that make sons into daughters.
1,3,5,15 & 17 are great.

Even though I live in San Diego, I'm not a fan of hot summer days either. Happy to see that at least one of us has given in. 22 great pop songs to fight off the blistering heat.

Suprising for such a summer hater to have made such a great summer mix. Very fun. Judging from your other great mixes, they'll be more to come
