Comment:
Why yes, this is a strange mix. This has been in um... production for a long time. It was originally planned as my anniversary mix (3rd? 4th?) back in February, but work got in the way. There's reggae and jazz and soul and folk, yikes. Lots of instrumentals. And hey, look! None of my usual suspects.
Some notes: the title is from the Big Shirley song. Does anyone out there know anything about Big Shirley besides the fact that they are rockin' funky? This is a great song, but I have no idea where I got this CD.If you see it, grab it.
The Ernest Ranglin is a must-own record.
I played that Turtles song 100 times last summer. That one deserves some great cover versions.
Deal is one of my very favorite Dead songs and I do believe I was present at the show.
John Martyn sounds like Danko or someone from The Band on this cut.
I prattle.
Feedback:
Cool stuff Sally. 2,3,6 & 9 stand out.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Love the Turtles, Ranglin, Frisell, Dungen and Haden/Rubalcalva picks especially. And happy anniversary.
Yum. This is so cool. Love the Dungen, JM, Turtles, Beck... Most go fishing for some Big Shirley now...
Great Mix!
a mix full of beautiful tunes
always pleasing to see the v-roys on a mix.
another mix of yours hits the target dead on - cool stuff here
Looks really good. I especially love the double whammy that closes the disc.
Lovely stuff
Sweet! The four songs closing this out are a wonder of mixing originality.
The Getz / Turtles and Martyn / Beck pairings are inspired.
Absolutely love that Dungen track. I got there new album the other day and it's smoking. I'll have to check out Big Shirle. Nice mix.
Ah but you prattle so sweetly Sally. No mistaking this is a top mix.
Few Mistakes? You Made No Mistakes on this one. Sorry.
I'm a sucker for girlie prattle . . . .A belter of a mix. Sorry I missed it at the time.
