it's that time of the year where all of my recently-graduated friends and myself are gearing up to leave for grad school - melanie r. is the first to go. this is part one of a two-part mix for her. she's very punk, into traditional things like 7 seconds, dead kennedys, etc., and i love all of those bands but i wanted to expose her to something a little different. therefore, many of the songs contained on this one and the next one are kind of punk, and kind of not, from bands who may not necessarily be classified as punk bands. it's shorter than the second one by tracks (only slightly shorter in minutes) so they may seem kind of uneven, but i think they work well separately.
