Comment:
My old pal the Governator of California assures me that having this CD playing in your car will excuse you from any
speeding ticket anywhere in his state, the open & shut defense being "I couldn't help it officer, I was listening
to THIS! "
It's a collection of high-octane high-speed high-intensity instrumentals concocted for a trade with that famous
12-speed blender & mixer
Skipper Bartlett
- (actually Skipper only wanted a copy of my earlier "driving instrumentals" mix,
Chasing the Horizon
, but when I pulled that one out for replay I realized how many compelling high-speed highway tunes I had either
forgotten to include
or not even known about back then, so clearly a volume two was called for, & this is it, a companion &
continuation -
Some of these bands aren't super well known, but if you think Duane Eddy, Link Wray & Los Straitjackets you'll have a pretty good feeling for the mood. Or, those of you who know Sean Lally's guitar mixes, think Sean Lally - I'm sure I must have got some of these tracks from him. I guess the best description I can offer of these tunes is still the one I came up with for volume one, so I'll
just repeat it here:
Everyone needs a mix like this, for that 3rd or 4th day of the cross-country trip, when it's all open
road & no speed limits, & someone must have dropped some acid in the gasoline 'cause the car is tripping.
All instrumentals, all pounding, all big sky!

Feedback:
I wanna go fast mama!! I can see the tickets piling up all ready. Thanks Mr. de Vivre I've been enjoying the hell out of this.
Ha! Love that Peewee snuck on there. Go Speed Racer!
This looks like a ton of fun. Maybe I'll watch Two Lane Blacktop or Vanishing Point tomorrow...
i know very little here but i'm excited to get acquainted - looks like alot of fun
Very nice, and a great concept.
Absolutely killer, me thinks I'll need a copy. Now if you could only come up with a mix that would get me off the runway in O'Hare.
This looks awesome...
I need a copy of this!!! Looks outstanding.
Looks cool. Can't claim to be familiar with most of it, but the general tone of the thing is very Tarantino-esque.
Fasten seatbelt, mirror, signal, manoeuvre and we're off on a fabulous musical trip.
Love everything about this.
I agree with Marc & Terry. And Rob. And hopefully Skipper...
THis is really cool. Great mix.
Holy man-eaters on motor-bikes! This might blow everyone off the road!
Good to see Duane Eddy on both Driving mixes (I included Forty Miles of Bad Road by him on my mix for Car Enthusiasts from way back in Feb. 2005). Looks like this would make for an adventurous trip down that long highway.
yes, indeed! I hardly need another excuse to break the speed limit, but this looks like a reason to break the sound barrier! any idea if our old friend the Governor of Washington is offering a similar exemption?
There is this little button marked "cruise" and I love it... there is this nasty piece of "highway" called US 31 that runs from South Bend to Indianapolis, and I HATE it... long... dull... flat... I have to hit cruise or the nice County officer or the honked off, underpaid State Trooper will talk to me. Which I have had happen WAY too many times... so I hit cruise and put in a sweet disc and REALLY would have liked this one, once or thrice....
You gotta love any mix that will get you out of a speeding ticket! Too bad you didn't have room for the theme song to CHIPS ;) Anyway, sorry that I'm in the slow lane regarding our pending trade. Will try to speed things up this weekend.
Great mix; instrumentals rule! There are quite a few on here I don't know yet.
Congrats on a great mix. I'd love to have a copy.
Love this. Congrats!!!
Congrats Jeff. Hey, If you're ever walking past the post office with copies of both volumes in an envelope...... :)
Congrats on Mix of the week. This is one hell of a good collection. Thanks again.
an incredible road soundtrack
Hell yeah! Right up my alley - save me a copy. I'm almost back in action.
Whee! This would also work for speedboats.
You can never ever go wrong with a Joey de Vivre mix. And this is the perfect California mix series. Pedal to da medal.
Nice Mix it rock!
Whoa, where was I? This looks killer.
What are those flashing lights in my rear view mirror?
just back from holiday - looks a belter of a mix - sorry to come so late to the party. Congratulations on MOTW.
This looks awesome. When I think of memorable instrumentals, I always think of Danny Elfman!
