Comment:

Tunnel of Love was the very first cassette I ever owned (well, it was a birthday present, along with Weird Al and Tiffany). I don't listen to Weird Al or Tiffany anymore (well, only on occasion!! ;) but The Boss has managed to endure. His Greatest Hits CD is a favorite of mine, so I made this mix, which doesn't have any of his "greatest hits" on it. These are some of my personal favorites and, speaking as a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, I think they hold up just as well as his greatest hits. Tunnel of Love remains my favorite Bruce Springsteen CD, although Nebraska and Ghost of Tom Joad are up there as well. Maybe one day, I will make a mix with story songs from those CDs. Until then, this will have to do. Favorites include One Step Up, Stolen Car, and Racing In The Streets.

Some great stuff here but I would have had to include a couple tracks from Nebraska (my fav Boss CD). 1,3,5,9,14 and 16 are my Favs here.

simply eliminating bruce's greatest hits doesn't make this job any easier.
i would have made vastly different choices however 1,6, and 13 would probably make the cut. once again our tastes run concurrent. bruce is a project i've yet to tackle although i recently picked up his post lucky town discs in preparation.

Just thinking about Springsteen yesterday.... Some good cuts here, esp. 7-9, 11, & 13, but I agree with Mark that Nebraska should be more represented. And I hate to say it, but as much as I tried to like Tunnel of Love, I could never do it.

Interesting - since your first Bruce lp was after his "classic period" and after he became mega-huge, you concentrated on many lp's I've never given the time of day. Maybe I should. I lose interest after Nebraska and The River, but I love everything up through those records. Still, the first 2 are my faves - even though he's still finding himself.

I really never thought of Bruce as a "hit maker", Born In The USA excepted and that is my least favorite album of his. Dylan, The Beatles, Motown and "The Boss" have been my biggest musical influences and I severely under represent them in my mixes. No s.a.m. of Springsteen can be bad and this is a gem.

Like a couple of others who have already commented, I'm more familiar with earlier Bruce. I think more Nebraska would change the tone of this particular mix too much, though. I especially love 1, 3, 5, 9, 11, 13, 14 . . .

I can't believe I've totally ignored all of Springsteen's '80s stuff. Mine would include mostly stuff from BORN TO RUN ("Backstreets", "Jungleland"), and perhaps other songs from his first two LPs. I love your DARKNESS choices, however. "Racing in the Streets" is one of his masterpieces. And I've always loved "I'm on Fire."
