Comment:

This mix was inspired (and, admittedly, heavily copied from) G-Sphere's "Amazing Grace" mix, which is my favorite mix I have downloaded from this site. The religious theme is obvious, but more than that I think there is a theme of sin and redemption which is pretty compelling.

Both Emmylou Harris and Iris Dement have put out CDs of mostly hymns, although both are considered to be liberal activists, which I find interesting. In the liner notes to her CD, Iris Dement commented that the songs really weren't about religion, but comfort, and that they were a sort of lifeline through a season of hardship, which is how I think of these songs myself.

I was originally going to end my mix as G-Sphere's ends, with Judy Collins' Amazing Grace, which is one of my favorite songs, but it didn't seem to flow. Also, I recently acquired the amazing new CD from the incomparable Emmylou Harris, All I Intended to Be, and so I had to allow myself to indulge in putting two Emmylou songs on here, which I think is only fair, since the heaven I imagine features her angelic voice!

Full Force Gale, Christian Life, The Maker, Anchored in Love (the original Carters' version), and Look Up are some of my all-time favorite songs.
