Comment:

This is a Barry mix. I've been a deliberate stranger lately and if I haven't commented on your great mix I'm sorry, truly I am but my exile is only punishing myself. The absolute truth is, I got pissed off with the facade, the politics and the (assumes a Salinger stance) Phonys. I've battled depression for 12 long months and those of you who know me truly, know my worth. I guess sometimes I don't myself. I'm not going to name names at the risk of absent mindedly forgetting someone but I love so many people on this damn site. I'm getting better day by day but I will always stay true to my ethic.: IT'S ABOUT MUSIC. So if I have offended you, I'm sorry. If however you submit 5 mixes in 10 minutes or submit a html ridden mix with little substance then I might very well continue to offend. The trades I'm behind on, the correspndence I can't manage to keep up with? Forgive me. Walking 200 yards to the Post Office is an unbelievable ordeal for me right now, I know I know, It's mad, but hey maybe I am... I've wanted to do this for a long long time, the cat is well and truly out of the bag. I sincerely hope you don't think any less of me. This mix is called Hubris, its got some good songs on it. By the way the closer is the highest ranked song on my top 20 all time that I've ever managed to crowbar on to a mix.

So did I doowad but I think you've missed my point (or I have misconstrued it somewhat) Still, thank you and no offfence meant, I promise.

Good, I was starting to get 'very paranoid' since I had just put up a 6 CD mix in 10 minutes! Good to have you back, nice mix and cool pic.

Good to see another mix from you, Barry. I was hoping there was a cheerier explanation for your absence as of late. I hope you'll continue to get better, wishing you all the best. As for this mix, the 1-18 stretch looks especially outstanding.

Yeah, Daniel Johnston can be a scary opener but this sounds good!
Many thanks for the listen, & in my book you've well earned the right to stick to your own timing & your own standards, I just hope for my own sake you will keep crowbarring that good stuff together whenever the iron is hot . . .

Depression is a terrible thing, hopefully your hubris can help you through. Defiance of the gods! Brilliant! I know very little here, but am certainly curious. Glad you're back.

Looks like a mix with substance. Good to have you back on AOTM. You, as well as your exceptional mixes, are always worthwhile in my book.

'Tis indeed about the music, and let none tell you otherwise. That which Winston Churchill called his Big Black Dog can be horrible, indeed. A 200 foot walk can be impossible, let alone 200 yards. That being said, grand mix, good to hear from you, and taking one's time does pay off (as is evident here).

Welcome back in every sense of the phrase. The Johnston opener, the Mountain Goats tune and the closing three are stunning.

Welcome home - we've missed you ! Really, really glad to see you back with a belter of a mix (Vic Chesnutt's a boy, isn't he !)By the way, hubris may well have been a crime in ancient times, but not now, so don't worry ! Like Valis the Great says . . . . . !

This is a Sammy Comment. Good to have you back, feel the love and this time stick around. I have 5 mixes all made up, I shall post them over the next five weeks, and there will be NO HTML! ok, maybe just a little...
The mix? Great, love 1,3,5,6,10 and 14-18. That's actually quite a high portion of a Barry mix I know pre-listen. Barry goes mainstream!!
Anyway again, sorry you've been unwell, if I can paraphrase Fat Robbie a second 'Let AotM Be Your Energy'.....

I'm hoping that I am in no way involved in any offense, and if it was me it was probably just because my judgment was off due to a bad year of my own and no reflection on you. At any rate, you left nice remarks on my mix, and it was at a perfect time when I benefit from any support at all. Therefore, you spread some AOTM love at a deeper level than your offense ever could have been, and you probably weren't even aware of it. I know depression can be debilitating. I hope that music helped you get by - and that you would be so kind as to continue to share the mix of music that helped you.

I forgot to add that I like all of the artists on this mix, and yet I am unfamiliar with so many of the songs. This is always a good sign of a great mix.

hi Barry. was happy to be seated next to you at the latest AotM collaborative rendezvous, and was hoping that your inclusion meant you were once again situated between your computer and your music collection. hope you're doing well, and that you're as happy as we are that you're back. the mix: I've long thought Daniel Johnston annoyed me, but instead he startled me here. what a song! I guess he deserves another chance (or maybe it's I who deserve another chance). the whole 1-5 bit is my favorite here, along with that typically amazing Vic Chesnutt song.

It seems like I've been putting alot of The Mountain Goats on my mixes lately as well as one of the Wainwrights, so it's interesting to see where other people sprinkle them. And I've been loving the Frames recently after seeing the movie "Once." Actually this has alot of bands that frequent my playlists. Good Job

Once again, I have no idea what kind of politics go on around here, but for what it's worth, Barry, I like you. I'm sure you'll catch up with everything and we'll all get along well, and if not, hey, there are worse things in life. You're an excellent mixer and all-around contributor to this website so whatever you do, it will always welcome you back. Good luck with everything and, hey, mixer synchronicity - I just used Mt. Goats and Wainwright on my own mix! Yeah it's not that amazing, but if I can resemble the great Barrydali in any way, I feel pretty damn good about myself. Nice with the Her Space Holiday, Sparklehorse, and Daniel Johnston also. Afraid I don't know the rest, so thanks for the upload link. I'm very curious to see what this Arab Strap song has on you....
