Witches Grimoire: A Very Special Halloween Mind-Melt Listening Station Broadcast
Comment:
The Witches Caldron"Eye of newt, and toe of frog,Wool of bat, and tongue of dog""Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing""For a charm of powerful trouble,Like a hell-broth boil and babble""Double, double, toil and trouble,Fire burn, and caldron bubble"William Shakespeare--------------------------------------------Witches have had a long history with Halloween. Legends tell of witches gathering twice a year when the seasons changed, on April 30 - the eve of May Day and the other was on the eve of October 31 - All Hallow's Eve.The witches would gather on these nights, arriving on broomsticks, to celebrate a party hosted by the devil. Superstitions told of witches casting spells on unsuspecting people, transform themselves into different forms and causing other magical mischief. It was said that to meet a witch you had to put your clothes on wrong side out and you had to walk backwards on Halloween night. Then at midnight you would see a witch.--------------------------------------------Happy Halloween, My fellow mixin' ghouls. It's that time of year, again. So, I hope you enjoy this treat (trick?), a one hour and fifteen minute continous blended mix comprised of:Sound effects - witch cackles, cat howls, bat wings flutters, bubbling kettles, thunder claps and bell tolls (12, of course, as it is the Witching Hour).Readings by everyone's favorite Witchfinder General, Mr. Vincent Price. And, 30+ psychedelic, psych-folk, progressive and outsider tracks which will (witch'll?) have your mind-melting like you've been doused with a bucket of water. In addition, for your reading (dis)pleasure, track titles teleport you to a cauldron full o' spells, curses and other witchy goodness.Lastly, here's the link, as its time to hop on your BROOM.Feedback:
I dig the Manfred Mann, Strawberry Alarm Clock, etc. and looking forward to discovering the rest. Impeccable artwork as well.
Man Alive! Awesome. I'll be downloading this the minute my current 'upload' is complete. 4,7,12 & 22 is all I know so far..
"Holy dungeons & dragons, Batman...which one do we listen to first???"
(and just in time for the trick=or-treaters, mgnome). Excellent!

very clever execution - i'm looking forward to giving this a spin
Can't wait to check this out. Great cover too.
Sometimes you scare me.
looks brilliant - and no monster mash I am extremely pleased to see !I didn't realise that the late 60s and early 70s were such witching times . . . .
Love the looks of this mix -- warts and all. I don't know any of these songs, and the three witch songs which I do know didn't make the cut ("My Girfriend Is A Witch" by October Country, that Donovan number and the theme to Bewitched). I'll be up all night downloading this -- but I'm keeping the lights on.
Ahhhh, a Gnome-ish Halloween treat, my All Hallows Eve is complete (except that I have to find plastic hand-grenades and bronzed baby shoes for my Leonard Smalls costume.)
Wow...Goblin! One of the most sinister and jarring film scores ever, I think. This looks fantastic!
FanTAStic.
totally killer, so many favorites here , I don't know where to begin. Happy Halloween.
Quoth Peter Griffin: "Holy Crap!!!" Amazing!! WHERE did you find the Coven????
And I ADORE Goblin!
You rock this genre, sir. What an epic!
I am awestruck.... This ranks right up there with trick or treating at houses where they gave out full-size candy bars.
Yes, its back. The Mind-Melt Listening Station! Awesome work dude. Such a fun listen.
Spellbindingly good!!!
awesome. musicgnome's mix of the week is an annual end-of October tradition at my house. Les Baxter, The Mystrys, Manfred Mann, Strawberry Alarm Closk, Coven (if that's the one where the guy shouts out "Beezelbub!"), Frog and Gabor Szabo were all highlights for me. but the real pumpkin pies were The Sonics (civic pride, maybe) and Walter Wegmnller selections. Happy Halloween, musicgnome. good to see you back.
This devilish fooker is amazing!!!
You are so intense!
That is truly awesome & inspiring, a work of art -- I'm grabbing it right now from Megaupload & I just know it will be a Halloween hit.
Man, you really lay the groundwork when you build your mixes - something as witchy as this doesn't just fall into place all by itself.
I do appreciate it.

when i grow up i want to make mixes like this
There's so much on here I love--the Les Baxter and Goblin themes, The Sonics, the nostalgic sound fx... and the stuff that's new to me will surely be the best treat this year! Thanks, 'gnome...
Still digesting this bitches brew - will report back soon on transmigrations of physical/spiritual state. In the meantime - some stars to brighten the dark...
jonpoi says it all in so little...
Damn, I love that Sonics track!
Just listening to this astonishing mix now, one of the best things I've ever downloaded. Gonna start ploughing through your back catalogue. Really impressed with the whole package, the sleeve, the links...Thank you!
