Comment:

this is my autumn mix, which came together by bits & pieces over the past few weeks. i figured i'd made a mix for my least favorite season (summer), so what was stopping me from making a mix for my favorite season? it almost seemed like a neccessity. although i'm rather fond of my song choices, & on the whole it hangs together well enough, i'm slightly troubled by its flow; the songs are all pretty common-themed, sonically or thematically, but somehow i managed to fuck up a group of like-minded songs cohering together the way i'd like. i may end up revising the tracking order over the next week or so, but otherwise this is a bittersweet, melancholy listen for falling leaves & cool breezes, filled with the likes of somber, pastoral folk & hazy, rainy day pop. (as an aside, to quote mr. sammy g, can i mention that the camera obscura track is my new favorite song ever?) on a final note, yes i totally admit i nicked four songs (the nico, velvets, nick drake & van the man tracks) from the royal tenenbaums, but seeing as that soundtrack was my initial inspiration, can you blame me? & anyway, that - in my book - is the definitive autumn soundtrack; this is just second helpings. title from the elliott smith track (funny enough, my summer mix's title was also afforded by smith).

That Tenenbaums movie was perfect, as is this mix. Looks ideal for some blackberry wine watching the leaves change...

Ahh, Fall, my favorite time of year to go down to Route 80 and watch Winnebago's full of AARP members driving to states WITH hills and trees to watch leaves die.
Nice stuff here, that whole 4-16 run is really strong.

Crisp, delicious, with a yearning sweetness. That Emmylou cut is one of my absolute favorite break-up songs. I can't think of another that so aptly captures love and regret in the rear view mirror (except maybe "When the Spell is Broken" ... but that song is angry). Terrific.

Oh Anthony, what a gorgeous wonder we have here. I am almost unable to find fault -- ah but wait...no, no and thrice no -- it really is a splendid thing. In fact, I am so enamoured of it that I may even be sending you a gift to say thank you for the autumnal joy of it all.Now what may I send? -- you have an excellent music collection and a penchant for the fine art of "mixing". I have it! and now so shall you. I will purchase for you a brand new, shiny keyboard -- and here's the best part -- this keyboard has a shift key! Woot!I know, I know, you are overwhelmed by the prospect and the new vistas that will spread before you. It's ok Anthony, I ask nothing in return -- the mix is enough. It truly is. I rest my case...

Well done. I have one question, though: With global warming, do I have to play this later each year?

Love this season, and love this mix. Nothing wrong with "the royal tenenbaums" soundtrack. Absolutely love 1, 3, 4, 11 and the 18 to closing stretch.

autumn is my favorite season too. all music sounds better in autumn, food tastes better, wonderful smells get even better, sad movies make my eyes tear up during the opening credits, you get the idea. marvelous mix, Anthony. I especially think that Emmylou Harris has a voice made for autumn.

Ah, "Young Pilgrims" is the perfect autumn-themed Shins pick. My roommate's favorite Shins track, too. Nice coupling with Drake and Simon & Garfunkel. And 14-17 looks great too. I should check out this Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack...
