Comment:

When I watched Pan's Labyrinth last year, I was amazed at how well-made the film was and I became inspired to make a mix based on fairy tales. The plan never came into fruition, I guess because I couldn't think of enough songs that could remind a person of fairy tales. Recently, I've also rediscovered the Chronicles of Narnia, and after finding the old BBC series on youtube, I became nostalgic. I've made this mix as a sort of fairy tale of my own, as I find that the tracks put into a certain order create a kind of coherent story.

Imagine if you will a boy and a girl whose names are Peter and Polly (names taken from the Narnia Chronicles) who love listening to their mother read them fairy tales before going to sleep ("Matilda Mother"). One night, after their mother has read them a story, they begin to dream the same dream and they find themselves in another world. They decide to follow a yellow brick road they come upon, eventually finding a kingdom of which the King of Carrot Flowers is ruler. After finding hospitality with the king, he talks of a great battle from long ago. The children are eager to get back home and they ask him if it's possible for him to help them. He leads them to the Well of Destiny, which reveals to them a mission and a way to get back home. It mysteriously tells them to find a hidden door. They set off on an adventure, in which they encounter several magical creatures and places, like a helpful gnome that becomes their friend on their journey, mountains, a mysterious and forbidding forest, a swan as transportation, dwarves, a queen, a talking cat, sirens, etc. Towards the end, they meet an evil witch named Annabella and they're forced to fight her. When they finally defeat her, they find their way back home through a hidden door and awake from their eventful sleep. The story has a happy ending with "What a Wonderful World" emphasizing their happy return to home.

Most of the music is 60s psychedelic or music that sounds ethereal and evokes fantasy worlds and characters. Of course, the story I came up with could be a little more detailed, but anyone can come up with a different story in their head upon hearing this mix.

Guillermo del Toro is a great director. It is nice to see a Mexican (Tapatfo actually) talent reach such international heights. It also looks like you had great inspiration for this mix. It really looks like fun.

Great little story . . . . every mix should have a reason behind it, and this reason is perfect.

Lot's of Goody-Goodness here. The interesting thing about this mix is that, given all the artists I like in here, I thought for sure I could recreate it in my own playlist. It turns out that I am missing half these songs. Did you get Peter and Polly to steal them? :-) Good job
