Comment:
Pop music has often been accused of a lack of imagination and here's the proof. What is strange is that many of these twins were released within a few years of each other and musically many are similar, The Grout and Buzzcocks are punky as are the Rezillos and Disco Zombies and even though there is a good 20 years between the Stone Roses and Smoke songs they exude a similar vibe. Robert Wyatt and XTC make compatible bedfellows and as for The Elf, well its title implies a certain childish tweeness which both songs indulge in.Feedback:
Interesting idea, but I just have two questions: Where's Electric Light Orchestra's "Waterfall" and where's the Smithereens' "Top Of The Pops"?? ;)
some great songs here
Neat.
i always love these sorts of mixes when they show up. i made one of my own (id = 93560), if you'd care to look at it. that robert wyatt song is certainly a hoot -- i think of it as sort of a great lost beatles song, w/ a John melody and creepiness, a Paul-ine detachment, and, of course, vintage George instrumentation. coool. (& i can see why you didn't include Captain Beefheart's 15-minute "mirror man" instead.)
Nice one. I seem to know the first picks but not the second except for 4-5 & 9-10.
These are always fun. One of those items on my to-do list I've never gotten around to; interestingly (or not), the pairings I had in mind for my own mix were totally different, but yours is plenty cool.
Looks fun, where's the link?

Very cool. Glad you've gone down the non-chart hits route also ( Let's Dance - Bowie, Rea, Montez, 5ive... I Believe - Frankie Laine, EMF etc ). Strange how on almost every song title here I know one, but never both. I guess some research needs to be done...
You mean to tell me that the Rock Flowers' aren't covering a Television song?! Like Sammy, I know a few of these songs, but only one or two of the pairs. Love that fuzzy Barbara Moore and of course the Beach Boys, Buzzcocks and Stone Roses. Watch your mailbox for incoming parcels.
Cool!
Interesting concept... and well executed. Nice.
