this was probably the last mix tape i made before i heard nirvana; i put this together right after school had ended in late may or early june 1991 for the girl who became my first serious girlfriend. i remember she asked me for some lou reed stuff, which explains most of the first side. the second side is more of a snapshot of what i was listening to during the spring semester of 1991, the semester i got 2 Fs, a U (ie no credit for not doing my radio show), and an A (in english novel), the semester we'd get out of bed at 4 (an hour or so after everyone else had returned from their last class) and that was only so we wouldn't miss the brady bunch. it's all there, the good ("blue, red, and grey" "drifting") the so-so ("maxine"), and the mildly embarrassing (wynton marsalis). yes, i was trying to impress her. file under "overly self conscious eclecticism by means of underwhelming record collection."
