Living in Oblivion ..  Hapless movie director Steve Buscemi gives a bravura freak-out/RANT in a dream sequence when a mysterious beeping sound is heard on the set. (Spoiler Alert: The beeping sound turns out to be his alarm clock).
Living in Oblivion (cont'd) ..  "Where is it? Fucking motherfucking bastard, where are you? . Can somebody help me, please, huh? Do I have to do everything myself here? Aunt Cora, why don't you learn your lines, Cora? Hey script, how about paying a little attention a little
Living in Oblivion (cont'd)  bit there, okay? Hey, hey focus boy, I got some good Thai Stick, you wanna go fucking smoke one or do you want to pay attention here? What are you laughing at, Wolfe? You fucking pretentious beret-wearing motherfucker.
Living in Oblivion (cont'd) ..  Hey, I saw your reel, man, it sucks. The fuck would hire you anyway. Hey, Bob, you can't find a little noise on the fucking dolly? You creepy motherfucker" . "Auugh!!"
Ministry ..  Unsung (second 16 bars)
The Cruise ..  Timothy Levitch challenges his enemies to talk it over on the Brooklyn Bridge in a frightening rant. "To all my enemies who add flavor to my life, why don't you come up here to the Brooklyn Bridge so we can talk about it?
The Cruise (cont'd) ..  Why don't you come up to me and talk about it? To Leslie Lindinstroud, look, if you want to choke me when I'm like pre-pubescent and really much smaller than you, that's fine. I mean, I know that's how we all really feel about each other and I
The Cruise (cont'd) ..  know that that's really what it's all about but I'm not pre-pubescent anymore." . "Don't you know that all the menstruation that happened after that were parts of myself left behind that you were choking to death? That was my blood!"
Ministry ..  Unsung (first 32 bars)
Network ..  Peter Finch, posthumously awarded Best Actor Oscar in 1977, gives his ubiquitous "Mad as hell" speech while producer Faye Dunaway (also awarded Best Actress Oscar) and William Holden (nominated, not awarded) debates whether or not to cut him off.
Ministry ..  Unsung (first 32 bars)
Fight Club ..  Brad Pitt in the basement fight arena: "I look around, I look around, I see a lot of new faces." (laughter) "Shut up! Which means a lot of you've been breaking the first two rules of Fight Club. Man, I see in Fight Club the smartest and
Fight Club (cont'd) ..  strongest men who've ever lived." . "We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars. But we won't. We're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."
Ministry ..  Animosity (30-second bridge to third verse)
American History X ..  Edward Norton in the parking lot: "Hey, let's go! We're not here to fucking socialize. Curtis, what is that?" "Aw, come on, Derryck.." "Weed is for ____. Put that away right now. Have a little self respect. All right, listen up. "
American History X (cont'd) ..  We need to open our eyes." . "On the Statue of Liberty it says, `Give me Your, Your Hungry, Your Poor:' Well it's Americans who are tired and hungry and poor, and I say `til you take care of that, close the fucking book! `Cause we're losing."
American History X (cont'd) ..  We're losing our right to pursue our destiny, we're losing our freedom, so that a bunch of fucking foreigners can come in here and exploit our country. And this isn't something that's going on far away, it's happening right here."
American History X (cont'd) ..  . "And now some fucking Korean owns it who fired these guys and is making a killing because he hired forty fucking border jumpers. I see this shit going on and I don't see anyone doing anything about it and it fucking pisses me off!"
Ministry ..  Animosity (Full)
Network ..  Anchorman Peter Finch invites viewers to watch him commit suicide. "Since this show is the only thing I have going for me in my life, I have decided to kill myself. I'm going to blow my brains out right on this program a week from today."
Network (cont'd) ..  "So tune in next Tuesday. That should give the public relations people a week to promote the show. Going to get a hell of a rating out of that, fifty share, easy.". "Did you hear that? Howard just said he's going to kill himself next Tuesday."
Network (cont'd) ..  "He was supposed to do a tag on Ron Nesson and instead he said he was going to blow his brains out." "What the fuck is going on, Howard?"
Ministry ..  Unsung (second 16 bars)
Lost in America  Albert Brooks hilariously loses it at the Hoover Dam: Julie Hagerty hitch-hikes/leaves him for a stranger: "I can't believe it, that's it. I have been too controlled! What do you mean?
Lost in America (cont'd) ..  You took our nest egg and you broke it all over the Desert Inn! You filled up the casino with yolk! `The fair thing?' I was sleeping!" ."Please don't use that word. You may not use that word, it's off limits to you!
Lost in America (cont'd) ..  Don't use `Nest,' don't use `Egg.' A bird lives in a round stick! And you have `things' over easy with toast!" . "Holy shit would you take your arm back in? Linda? Don't do this. Don't get in that car! Stop it!"

Network ..  Peter Finch retracts his on-air suicide plans but digs deeper while the producers and engineers in the control room panic. ".Well I'll tell you what happened: I just ran out of bullshit. Bullshit is all the reasons we get for living."
Network (cont'd) ..  "And if we can't think of any reason of our own we always have the God bullshit. What's the point of going through all this pointless pain, humiliation and decay so there better be someone somewhere who does know. That's the God bullshit."
Network (cont'd) ..  Religious woman in programming booth: "Holy Mary Mother of God.."
Network (cont'd) ..  ..."Some say that man is a noble creature in charge of his own world, who needs God?
Network (cont'd) ..  Well if there's anybody out there that can look at this demented slaughterhouse of a world we live in and tell me that man is a noble creature,
Network (cont'd) ..  believe me that man is full of bullshit.". "He's saying that life is bullshit, so what are you screaming about?" . "Mr. Hackett is trying to get through to you!" "Tell Mr. Hackett to go fuck himself!"
Phranc ..  Take off Your Swastika ..
American History X ..  Edward Norton, Fairuza Balk, Elliott Gould and Beverley D'Angelo argue about the Rodney King riots, the most painful and arresting scene in the movie: "Like we had in Watts or the riots in Chicago in `68.." "That's crap,
American History X (cont'd) ..  I don't buy that for a minute. Calling a riot a rational expression of rage, that's such a cop-out. It's opportunism at its worst, it's a bunch of people grabbing any excuse they can find to go loot a store, nothing more."
American History X (cont'd) ..  ..."Don't touch me, all tarted up. How could you bring him to my father's table? How could you go from dad to that? Aren't you ashamed?" "I'm ashamed that you came out of my body!"
Dead can Dance ..  Ulysses ..
Network ..  Peter Finch, now a famous TV host, rants about the conglomeration of media into the hands of a few and implores the audience that TV is unreal. "A rich little man with white hair died. What has that go to do with the price of rice, right?
Network (cont'd) ..  .."Because you people, and 62 million other Americans are listening to me right now. Because less than 3% of you people read books. Because less than 15% of you read newspapers. Because the only truth you know is what you get over this tube."
Network (cont'd) ..  Right now there is a whole, an entire generation that didn't know anything that didn't come out of this tube. This tube is the gospel, the ultimate revelation. This tube can make or break Presidents, Popes, Prime Ministers.
Network (cont'd) ..  This tube is the most awesome goddamn force in the whole godless world. And woe is us if it ever falls into the hands of the wrong people."
Network (cont'd) ..  ... "And when the 12th largest corporation controls the most awseome goddamn propaganda force in the whole goldess world who knows what shit will be peddled for truth on this network.
Network (cont'd) ..  So, you listen to me. Listen to me!
Network (cont'd) ..  Television is not the truth. Television is a goddamned amusement park. Television is a circus, a carnival, a travelling troop of acrobats, storytellers, dancers, singers, jugglers, sideshow freaks, lion tamers and football players."
Network (cont'd) ..  . "So turn off your television sets, turn them off now. Turn them off right now. Turn them off and leave them off. Turn them off right in the middle of this sentence I am speaking to you now. Turn them off!"
DJ Spooky ..  The Pledge to Resist ..
Lost in America ..  Albert Brooks believes he's in a meeting to promote him to Senior Vice President, only to learn he's being given a new assignment/campaign in New York. His resultant tirade gets him fired and thrown out of the office by security.
Lost in America (cont'd) ..  "Hey, David, say 'Hi' to Brad Tuling. Brad just joined the agency in the East, one of the top men from Doyle Danes, fantastic, we're lucky to get him
Lost in America (cont'd) ..  I got two of the best men in modern advertising right here. Brad has joined the agency for a very special reason: We're going to get Ford."
Lost in America (cont'd) ..  ..."No, no you couldn't, I'm Senior Vice President." "No, Phil Shabano is Senior Vice President."
Lost in America (cont'd) ..  .."Oh, well, that explains it, then: So by being extra clever and by being here longer I get shifted to another account, and Phil, because of his low intelligence and short time with the company gets this job I've been waiting my whole life for!"
Lost in America (cont'd) ..  ..."After all these years I get a transfer! I can get that on us bus right now, I don't need any qualifications!"
Lost in America (cont'd) ..  . "Don't have lunch with this man! Be very careful, he'll want to take you to lunch, don't do it! He'll tell you all about the future, how good the future's going to be here. I've seen the future! It's a bald-headed man from New York!"
Contortions ..  Dish it Out ..

Comment:

"Art of the Mixed Results."

This is volume VI: RANT. It's actually a two-hour format so I had to cut it in half.

Mostly inspired by 'Network,''American History X' and 'Lost in America,' with multiple samples of the opening bars of 'Unsung' off Ministry's 2003 'Animositisomina.' Not the best cut on the album but the opening bars, particularly the 2nd 16, still inform my internal soundtrack.

For each cassette I included bold-lettered warnings: "Adult Material/Objectionable Language, Views," with proper reason.

For those who've seen and remember 'Network' this might be a little boring. For those who haven't seen 'Network,' rent it, upload it, buy it and see it. Paddy Chayevsky is masterful.

Looks intriguing. Since I haven't heard this, I hope you've put a copy aside for me.

Norton did a fine job, but you continue to amaze me with the patience and attention to detail with which you put these together.
