Comment:
this mix needs a name. i haven't come up with one yet but here's the back story: it's for my friend mel, one of my best friends from college. she always complains about not being able to connect with people because people around her only ever want to talk about music, and she swears she just isn't into music at all. my theory is that she doesn't know enough about good music to be into it (i mean come on - who owns an ipod and isn't into music?!) so this is my attempt to introduce her to some music she might like and maybe make her realize that music is amazing, which is why people use it all the time to connect with other people.i'm pretty happy with the way it came out, i think. it flows fairly nicely, and the key for this mix was making it listener-friendly; hence there isn't a lot of weirder stuff on here. catchy was the goal and hopefully i have achieved it. some songs are really about her and the current situation between us - she's working on her postgrad in scotland right now so any song that's about being far away - track 2, track 15, track 18, track 21, for example - is pretty much how things are. in truth i may have just wasted my time on this. who knows if she'll give it a chance but hey, you have to try, right?
the jimmy eat world song is a cover of one of my favorite guided by voices songs. the cat's miaow song is, i believe, a cover of the magnetic fields song - i heard this version first so i was never sure who wrote the original. the elected song i can't get enough of lately, and the link provided is to the daytrotter website which is chock full of downloads from bands who have recorded sessions for those lovely people.
