Comment:
this falls somewhere between what rob would call a "for the hell of it" & what sammy would call a "pop mix" - a "for the pop of it," if you will. it's a bit of an oddity, as it's simply a mixed genre attempt with no specific theme or concept in mind. this is odd because it's been some two plus years since i've made myself a mix that didn't have a narrative flow, mark a special occasion or commemorate a specific event. try as i may though - & believe me, i have - going for the "for-the-hell-of-it, no-theme, just-some-songs-i-wanna-hear" approach never seems to pan out, as subconsciously a theme works itself into my mind, before becoming more purposeful as i realize how impossible it is for my brain to process a collection of tracks with no connection what-so-ever. the loose theme here is sweet crush-pop & wistful indie, a sticky sweet soundtrack to a winter or summer fling, if you'll pardon my triteness. almost filed this as "romantic," but seeing as it's not made for my girlfriend nor any other hypothetically potential mate, & since the stars-in-my-eyes vibe isn't concrete enough to warrant such categorization, i feel i've fulfilled my goal of making myself a mix with no thematic intent nor purpose. at any rate, i've been listening to it obsessively since i've completed it (it's been in the works for a month or so now, slowly but surely), so that's what matters, right. huge thanks to sammy for the afternoon naps track. title from the painfully clever line in the jens lekman tune.Feedback:
Oh, I love so much of his mix!!! It's absolutely lovely.
My favorite type of mix is just like this. What a great opener.
Hehe, Anthony, I believe only you could make a for-the-hell-of-it mix that's in the works for a month - what a contradictio in termini ;) Mind you, that's not intended as a slag at all - the effort shows!
Even when I thought I had made a mix such as this, listening to it often revealed some thematic thing going on. Apparently the subconscious mind is always at work behind the scenes. This looks very nice, however, especially the closing five tunes.
Alright! Ike & Tina, Magnetic Fields, Husker Du, VU, Vaselines, Kinks...great stuff!
I spot little themes here and there: Postcard by the Afternoon Naps, Falling And Laughing first released on the Postcard label and Beirut's Postcards From Italy; and you have a band with afternoon in the title and a song called Afternoon Tea. Great mix, by the way.
I'm always puzzled when people say making a mix just for the sake of making a mix is an "oddity." Nonetheless, this is a cool oddity with lots of favorites.
A better opening three you couldn't find I reckon. Make it opening 22 if you want to be completely accurate, though. L.O.V.E Love 'Falling & Laughing'...
The Funky one hit most of my favs here. Enjoying the Vampire Weekend disc alot too.
Very cool. Only up on half of it, but love that half (Pavement, Huskers, Mag Fields, VU, Kinks...).
I have nothing but praise for this mix. Every single song is brilliant. An absolute gem Ant.
Lots of great picks here throughout.
Nice - can't beat a bit of sunshine pop in the depths of winter!
I thought she said make belive, great stuff, a lot of personal favs here
Man, this is exactly what I pictured a Rob and Sammy collaberation would look like! I love everything here.
i lovelove it
I know what you mean- my mixes more often than not end up silly and over-ambitious. Anyway great opening two, fantastic Jens track... and more!
Love the Orange Juice and Black Tambourine. I had a radio show for a few months called "Falling and Laughing".
Cool. Back-to-back FTHOI mixes. Rob needs to start collecting royalties. Plenty to love here! All winners. No losers. Love that last track, especially. One of my all time favorites :) BTW, got the Smiths mix last week. Thank you, charming man.

Quite a few stellar mixes on the boards of recent. This is definately one of 'em. Pavement and Husker Du always pair so perfectly. Great work, all-together.
Beirut, Vaselines, Beat Happening, Hnsker Dn, Magnetic Fields and Ike & Tina are all favorites on this one. keep the FTHOI mixes coming, buddy. great stuff.
I'm sorry . . . I thought that I had commented on this already (oops !)great title, great mix and just like Salman says really . . . . .
this is just excellent... I love those VU, Magnetic Fields & Vaselines songs.
Yeah, I could see the dilemma you could get yourself into purposely avoiding themes. And, yeah, Salman is right.
