Comment:

"What if I told you that God and the Devil made a wager for the souls of all mankind?" ... Keanu Reeves as John Constantine

In the cinema, Keanu Reeves becomes engaged not once but twice in the God vs. Devil eternal skirmish. Recently I viewed both "Constantine" and "The Devil's Advocate." In the former movie, Keanu plays a man who is cursed to Hell because of a dark past and thus has the power to see and fight demons. Constantine can excorcise the nasties plus do battle hand to hand or with spiritual weapons. The plot is basically about Constantine finding out that he's about to die while at the same time uncovering a plan by Satan's son (Who's your daddy?) to take over the earth. It left me sort of, well ... cold.

In Devil's Advocate, a charismatic lawyer (Al Pacino) recruits the successful young attorney (Keanu Reeves) to his high-powered Manhattan firm. Both Keanu and his wife (Charlize Theron) find life on Park Avenue seductive. But soon, strange things begin to happen, and by the time the pair begins questioning Pacino's plans and who -- or what -- Keanu actually works for, it may be too late. For the religious-minded, it's a much more biblical view of Satan than in most films: not some horned monster who goes around impregnating annoying mousy blondes or possessing preteen girls, more of a life-of-the-party who wins peoples' hearts by giving them all their desires and only later telling them of the cost. I found myself extremely paranoid after watching this movie. Whether it scares you as much is up to you, but either way I believe you'll find this movie will leave you ... wondering what you would do if Pacino's devil came calling your name.

It goes without saying that these two movies were the launching pad for this double-CD mix. You'll have two chances to win a copy with full artwork in the following quizzes.

Devil Quiz: Name the author and novel that inspired the Stones' song "Sympathy for the Devil."
God Quiz: What two musicians on Side B became followers of a)Krishna and b)Jehovah's Witness?

Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita is the answer to the first question. And yes, ash is correct about the other two. Interesting mix, although I don't share your love of the Keanu films. ;-)

this is a nice spin on an age-old theme - good work - esp. like the stones, louvin brothers, jay-z, kanye, moz, cash, prince (extra points for that one), tom waits, lennon & hank williams tracks...

Nice compilation. I added it to the Thank God exhibit. But I think that Bob Dylan could possibly be an answer to both a & b (at least for a little while) ;)

Don't know all the songs, but I know most of the artists. Looks pretty solid, good work. Love the Cash tune, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are impressive, though I don't know the songs you used.

Brilliant. I love that Charlie D - AC/DC run but as I'm a good boy I'll say I prefer Side 2 here..

Far better than the movies. And, as usual the overall package is ridiculously professional. Put me on your list of mix devotees.

The devil has the best music, clearly! But you've given the other side pretty good representation here, too.

good idea for a mix. As a nonbeliever, even I listen to Prince, Dylan, Lennon, Cash, and Kanye. Interesting about how you have Nick Cave on BOTH SIDES.
