Comment:
This is a mix of my favorite Warren Zevon songs. As evidenced by my song selections, my favorite of his CDs is Life'll Kill Ya, which is really what got me started on Warren Zevon. Stevie Nicks provides backup vocals on Mohammed's Radio and Linda Ronstadt provides amazing vocals on Empty-Handed Heart. My favorite of Warren Zevon's songs is Carmelita, although I do prefer Linda Ronstadt's version. Other favorites include Accidentally Like A Martyr, Back In The High Life Again, and Keep Me In Your Heart. The last songs cut were The Indifference of Heaven and Please Stay (which I love, except for the annoying sax).Feedback:
Interesting guy. He shagged a lot, you know.Just getting to know his work now having read the book recently . . .
warren's on my list for a s.a.m.. glad to see bullet for ramona, no one ever gives credit for wanted dead or alive, including mr zevon himself. i am missing lawyers, guns, and money but not werewolves.
I always wondered about that Pioneer Chicken on Alvarado, must have closed when I was really young. There's one a couple blocks from where I've read it once was. There is a version of Carmelita by Dwight Yoakum and Flaco Jimenez that is great too... I'll have to pick up these albums you mentioned. Thanks.
Funny, I did one of these a couple of months ago but focused only work from the mid-'60s through 1980. I hadn't posted it yet because I was going to give his other albums another shot (I've never been a big fan of much beyond what I just described) with an eye towards making a second disc. This looks (in addition to being a fine mix on its own) like a good inspiration for me to get moving with that idea.
I saw Zevon many times, more often when I used to live in Connecticut and have bootlegged shows of his in NYC and Boston that are primo quality. He's a favorite for sure.
I can't do these because it is too hard to limit myself to one CD. I would love to hear this one. Carmelita is also my favorite, but I prefer the original. Great job.
Ah, and Gobi is right, the guy was a total sexaholic. I wish his book would have focused more on the rock n' roll than the sex n' drugs.
