Comment:

This follow-up to my banjo mix is dedicated to KathrynandRupert, whose
comment inspired its creation. Like the banjo, I didn't realize how
much ukulele music I actually had until I started listening for it.
I've been a longtime fan of artists like Cliff Edwards (AKA Ukulele Ike
AKA Jiminy Cricket) and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, but I'd forgotten about
some of the others, so it was nice to rediscover them. This one's all
over the map, but then again I do so love eclectic mixes.

What a great-looking mix, I'm looking forward to the DL very much.
Next, maybe the Dobro, or the mandolin?

Or the lute... but didn't Sting do a lute album? Presumably that ruined the instrument for eternity. Mandolin & dobro make sense, if only so you can name-check Magnetic Fields' "100,000 Fireflies."

Is there any instrument that HASN'T been used on a Magnetic Fields song?

Well, I saw the title of this mix and a big smile crept on my face. Then I saw the tracklisting and now I've got jaw ache. I just knew The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain had to feature. And what a great opener. The highlight for me though is track 12. Check him out on You Tube people

It's luau time. Tiny Tim would be pleased. Kudos for tracking all these down.

A fantastic tribute to the ukelele (bug)lady. I'm surprised you were able to uncover so many songs that utilize this underappreciated instrument -- without even resorting to Tiny Tim. You're my uke-box hero!

I hadn't listened to Ed's Redeeming Qualities in a long time, so thanks for reminding me about them.

That was AWESOME. Hitting replay, now. A perfect start to a Sunday Morning. And, to think we had some Kona Coffee available to round the experience. Perfect. MUCH thanks for the smiles!!!!

Moe: I was on the fence about Tiny Tim. I actually HAVE a few songs by him, but his songs upset the flow a little too much. I really wanted to use that Ramones cover by Gus & Fin though, so I found a way to make it work. Thanks everyone, I'd love to do a kazoo mix, but I don't think I could find enough songs to do it justice! I'm considering the singing saw or the ocarina though.

So good Deanna. I'm really pleased that Absolutely Cuckoo made the cut. Too many great songs here. Splendid.

You did it! An ukelele mix. And you managed to keep George Formby off it. For that alone you deserve MOTW. I await your mandolin mix.

Thanks to Claude for providing me with a better-quality alternate take of track 12. Mine was from a live recording, and it had some odd artifacts. Please feel free to download it and replace mine if you like.

Wow - everything from the sublime to the ridicukulous! Ukulelele Ike will always be my favorite but he's in excellent company here.

put this one on yesterday and enjoyed it much. especially liked the Jens Lekman song and the bit from track 20 to the end is really super. was thrilled to hear Glass Bottom Boat/Que Sera Sera evidently recorded directly from the movie's soundtrack. it's one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite Doris Day films.
