Comment:

Growing up with an Irish American dad, St. Patrick's Day was always a big deal in my household. We'd listen to Irish music for hours on end while waiting for my mom to finish preparing our annual meal of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots and Irish soda bread. Well, we celebrated St. Paddy's a day early this year, and I played lots of Irish tunes while we ate, sang and just had a great time together. The bugman has a limited appreciation for the Irish tunes, and is pretty relieved when our annual music fest is over with. This inspired me to create a different type of mix to celebrate St. Patrick's Day... an all-green mix. Like most of my mixes, it's a quirkfest from beginning to end. I had to sneak in the Irish Rovers for the closing track... maybe he won't notice ;)

Super-cool stuff, buglady. Love the R.E.M. track (just busted out Fables yesterday, in fact), Lemon Pipers, Apples in Stereo, Booker T. and Elvis Costello tracks a lot.

I love the fact your mixes are Quirkfests, I wouldn't want it any other way. This looks t'riffic. Especially the 12-17 bit in the middle. And the Kinks...

I've always been a sucker for the opener. Wikipedia lists versions of "Bein' Green" by Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, Van Morrison, Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Mandy Patinkin, Stan Kenton, the Boston Pops, Tony Bennett and Oscar the Grouch (among others).

Fantastic! I especially love 7, 9, 13, 17, 20, 23-25. But where's Ken Nordine?

Not a lot of green in this nice Jewish boy's household, but damn, it's a fine mix. You hit most of the green-themed tunes that immediately sprung to my mind (particularly 2,3,7,8,10,15,24 and 25).

Ken was on an earlier incarnation of the Green Mix, but it threw off the flow... so it had to go.

I'm green with envy. (I suck, I know.) This mix doesn't.

Green is my favourite colour. I've done a few colour mixes but not yet green. Love the REM, Bees and Kinks tracks. And quite a few other. An emerald effort. ( I have to say a lot of us get fed up with St.Paddy's day here in England because everyone jumps on the Irish bandwagon declaring the Liffey runs through their veins. I actually am part Irish, one of my distant relatives was even in the IRA about 70 years ago.)

who would'a guessed that *green* was so popular at AotM? It's always been my favorite color too! I'm arriving late to this one, but enjoyed it just the same - especially The Young Fresh Fellows, Irish Rovers, Trashmen, Enoch Light & His Light Brigade (one of my favorites), Herb Alpert, Kingston Trio, Rick Nelson, Dandy Warhols and Golden Bough.
