Attack of the Mechanical Men
Comment:
I had a lot of fun with this one. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's
noticed all the robot songs floating around lately. I decided to put a
little buglady spin on the genre, and create a bit of a narrative in
the process.
This one starts out in the best possible way: using technology to
improve human life... the Bionic Man! (one of my favorite shows when I was a kid). Tracks 1-9
feature benevolent
androids/robots, in a world where we have been developing them to serve
mankind.
The middle of the mix, tracks 10-17
transition into a future where robots have become commonplace. We are
now using and abusing them (track 18)
for our convenience. Although everything seems ideal, trouble is
brewing on the horizon... the robots grow tired of our abuse and decide
it's time to overthrow their oppressors.
We glimpse the beginning of the end by
track 19, when we
realize we cannot trust robots. It's all
downhill from there, and the battle between robots and humans begins,
with only brave Yoshimi standing up to the rebellious droids. By track 26,
it's all but over, with
Queen rounding out the mix with a track from News of The World (with
the infamous robots vs. humans album cover).
To those of you disappointed by
the omission of "Mr. Roboto", all I can say is sorry, I really don't
like that song.
I'll bet there are lots of mixers on this site who could come up with a
comparable version of this mix using completely different songs, that's
what a goldmine this theme appears to be... anyone else up for the
challenge?

Feedback:
Beautiful work with this awesome theme!"Ms. Roboto" did one a while back... http://www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/getcontents.asp?strMixID=99430and and I made a couple too... http://www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/getcontents.asp?strMixID=97241

I first heard that Conchords song last night. Cute.
I had a feeling there had to be more robot mixes out there!
Fantastic work, great theme.
awesome! - how fun! is the mr roboto from the styx song a "friend or a foe"? how about the robot man from the early scorpions song? friend, or foe? am not knocking or suggesting any changes, just thanking you for taking me away from work and allowing my twisted mind to squeeze out some thought - great cover art! i love buglady! uke box and banjomania are fun for the whole twisted family - from grandma esther right on down to little tyler. much love!
Good question, Darryl. I was listening to a mashup of Mr. Roboto (Styx vs. the Gorrilaz), and was wondering that myself. My dislike of Mr. Roboto prevented me from using even this altered version though. And I gotta admit, I've never actually heard that Scorpions song...
Actually, what I meant to say is I haven't heard the Scorpions' VERSION of Robot Man.
Another buglady mix with the stamp of quality written all over it.Thanks for sharing this one.
Better...Stronger...Faster You make the best theme mixes!
My mind went right to the Radiohead tune...this is so cool! Like, fangirl squealing kind of cool. Awesome job!<3 Sara
i did not notice that the epoxies are covering the scorpions tune - the folks around here are really something. wow!
I love robuts (sic), this six million dollar mix and the omission of STYX!
Love the new mix! happy mixing!
This really is cool. Terrific stuff, so glad that Connie Francis tune is on here. And TMBG, and the fab Flaming Lips tune. Deserves to extend your tight grip on the mix of the week slot!
This is awesome.... Great theme, even better execution, too many highlights to single out. You are on quite a tear since your return and we are all the better for it.
all my mechanical friends applaud buglady.
No Mr. Roboto?! Screw you -- and this site.
Mr.Roboto is by Styx, ergo it is pap. Unlike this mix, makes me want to go and read my Metal Men comics (strictly speaking not robots I know).
Should have put a comma after "pap", would have made more sense. I'm taking on the challenge to come up with a robot mix without using any of your fine choices.
Exterminate!
you certainly are adept at making fun & catchy theme mixes - looks really fun, deanna
Forgot to add that my dad is really glad that you didn't put mr.roboto because "styx sucks" Hey it came out of his mouth not mine, even though i don't really like mr.roboto... Anyways, when i first saw this i immediatly thought of the robot on futurama...anyone? anyone? Yep that's right... BENDER!!! Lets just say he reminds me alot of my 'uncle' Steve, you guys know him as Wad. LOL!!! HAPPY MIXING!!!
Actually, Bender is on the back of the CD cover!
Great theme, great mix!
Yes, great mix and theme. Styx violated the Three Laws of Robotics so they shouldn't be included anyway.
You Robot! Great mix idea.
This looks cute and fun. I'm more than fine with "Mr. Roboto" being left to rot in a garage. ;-)
Sweet, sweet theme. I'm downloading as we speak (...or as I type)
Love the Lips and Conchords tracks especially
wow way cool
I really loved to download this but the link don't work, hmm
I just checked the link and it appears to be working...
bloody hell, I am late to this party !yes, it is a very cool theme . . . not sure that I could rise to your challenge but I am excited about seeing who will . . .
Too awesome. Count me among the roboto enthusiasts!!! Bleep-Bleep-Blorp...
thank god I've saved up some of your recent mixes that I still haven't listened to. otherwise, I'd be going through withdrawals by now, I'm sure. this one was tons of fun, especially that zany Andrew Thompson track, which we've listened to more than once, I can assure you. (the guy at the next desk over is named Andrew.) also really liked The Slackers, Bent Bolt & the Nuts, My Robot Friend, Connie Francis, Looper, Les Baxter and the Oliver Nelson opener made me feel six years old again. oh, and my colleague (not Andrew) says 386 DX sound like Elmer Fudd. and so they do.
