Comment:

I had a lot of fun with this one. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's
noticed all the robot songs floating around lately. I decided to put a
little buglady spin on the genre, and create a bit of a narrative in
the process.

This one starts out in the best possible way: using technology to
improve human life... the Bionic Man! (one of my favorite shows when I was a kid). Tracks 1-9
feature benevolent
androids/robots, in a world where we have been developing them to serve
mankind.

The middle of the mix, tracks 10-17
transition into a future where robots have become commonplace. We are
now using and abusing them (track 18)
for our convenience. Although everything seems ideal, trouble is
brewing on the horizon... the robots grow tired of our abuse and decide
it's time to overthrow their oppressors.

We glimpse the beginning of the end by
track 19, when we
realize we cannot trust robots. It's all
downhill from there, and the battle between robots and humans begins,
with only brave Yoshimi standing up to the rebellious droids. By track 26,
it's all but over, with
Queen rounding out the mix with a track from News of The World (with
the infamous robots vs. humans album cover).

To those of you disappointed by
the omission of "Mr. Roboto", all I can say is sorry, I really don't
like that song.

I'll bet there are lots of mixers on this site who could come up with a
comparable version of this mix using completely different songs, that's
what a goldmine this theme appears to be... anyone else up for the
challenge?

Good question, Darryl. I was listening to a mashup of Mr. Roboto (Styx vs. the Gorrilaz), and was wondering that myself. My dislike of Mr. Roboto prevented me from using even this altered version though. And I gotta admit, I've never actually heard that Scorpions song...

Actually, what I meant to say is I haven't heard the Scorpions' VERSION of Robot Man.

Mr.Roboto is by Styx, ergo it is pap. Unlike this mix, makes me want to go and read my Metal Men comics (strictly speaking not robots I know).

Should have put a comma after "pap", would have made more sense. I'm taking on the challenge to come up with a robot mix without using any of your fine choices.

Anyways, when i first saw this i immediatly thought of the robot on futurama...anyone? anyone? Yep that's right... BENDER!!! Lets just say he reminds me alot of my 'uncle' Steve, you guys know him as Wad. LOL!!! HAPPY MIXING!!!

thank god I've saved up some of your recent mixes that I still haven't listened to. otherwise, I'd be going through withdrawals by now, I'm sure. this one was tons of fun, especially that zany Andrew Thompson track, which we've listened to more than once, I can assure you. (the guy at the next desk over is named Andrew.) also really liked The Slackers, Bent Bolt & the Nuts, My Robot Friend, Connie Francis, Looper, Les Baxter and the Oliver Nelson opener made me feel six years old again. oh, and my colleague (not Andrew) says 386 DX sound like Elmer Fudd. and so they do.
