Comment:
I believe that you can tell if a reggae song is going to suck or not within about 5 or 10 seconds. In fact, I believe this so strongly that for this mix, I asked my buddy doowad to doctor a few of these to get rid of some extra bullshit at the beginning of some of the songs. In return, I let him put a Fabulosos Cadillacs track on here (at least Mick Jones approves of them).Ah, but, well, the inspiration for this is thanks to doowad's buddy Eliot (soon to join these parts) who digitized an 18 year old mix-tape that doowad made of my reggae collection back in our college days. Many of those disks (and LPs) were ripped off by some asshole friend of a past roommate so I am more than grateful to have them back. In any case, these are a few of my favorite reggae/ska/dub tracks, hope you enjoy.Feedback:
looks like great stuff!
I'm not up on reggae but even I know a lot of these. Many great tunes here, I'm especially fond of Police & Thieves and Pressure Drop.
Our tastes in reggae/dub are very similar, as you've included a lot of my absolute favorites here. In fact, you might be interested in the reggae mix that I posted last year:http://www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/getcontents.asp?strMixID=115244. Good to see you around here after all of the positive things that doowad has said. :-)
is this 10 second trick some ganja voodoo vibe or is it something you could teach. i would love to see if it translates to other genres. here's to overcoming asshole friends of past roomates.
"Hears" to peace, love, happiness, and reggae.
ditto rob on pt. 2 of his comment - great to see you 'round these parts. never been a big fan of reggae, but i love the clash tracks wholeheartedly.
Reggae's not my strong suit either, but I can get behind the Clash and Jimmy Cliff tracks. Great to see a new one from you!
Ah yes, a lot of great stuff from the days of "The Harder They Come."
King Tubby and Augustus Pablo are the kings of dub. Nice effort.
Killa tracks, Mon. Great Clash, Toots, Tosh and Desmond Dekker picks.
You can't fail with these dudes. Best 'Monkey Man'.
I definitely don't love ALL reggae, but I'm fond of what you've chosen here. This looks like an excellent warm weather mix.
