Out of the group of some of my favorite alt-country/folk singers (e.g., Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Iris Dement, Lucinda Williams), Nanci Griffith was actually my first discovery. Other Voices, Other Rooms is one of my favorite all-time CDs; with all due respect to Kate Wolf, Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, etc., she owns every song on that CD. Her songs can veer off to sappiness when she tries pop music, but as a folk artist she has few peers IMO. Favorites from this mix include Across the Great Divide (and pretty much everything off that CD), One of These Days, Love At The Five & Dime, and Workin' in Corners.
