Comment:
When Martin Kimball went to sleep that night, the world was fine. His wife Lola slept peacefully at his side, while their daughter Courtney sprawled across her toddler bed in her Disney Princesses room. It was December 9, 2005.On the morning of December 10, Lola and Courtney were no longer there. They had vanished while Martin slept.
Two years later, and there's been no trace of them. Martin has fallen apart.
That's what I knew when I started making this mix. Little did I know that it was going to produce some sinister notes, or hint at Martin's delusions, his memories. The mix is filled with hints - a line here, a title there, a chorus or two. I still don't know what happened. All I know is that Martin Kimball was found curled up on a stained, spring-filled mattress in some grimy little motel, overdosed on a mix of alcohol and heroin, barely alive. He has not regained consciousness at this time.
Lola and Courtney have not been found.
Like the last motel mix, a David Gray song plays a pivotal role.
Download en route.
* Syra is a rebetiko song. This Asiatic/Greek style of music is roughly analogous to American blues, and it's something I've recently discovered. Quite cool.

Feedback:
As usual, too many highlights to mention and I know you don't like that anyway. What I will say is that I could see myself in Kimball's shoes ending the exact same way. Welcome back, fellow babymaker.
Jesus there's a happy mix concept -NOT! Can't fault the tunes though.
This is just stellar, Gabe...really like the Cohen, Iron & Wine, Haggard, Nick Drake, and Black Keys especially. And there's that Johnny Shines you suggested I check out too. Nice!
Gabe, you've been hanging out in all the best places. Can't wait to check it out and solve the mystery.
This looks really rather lovely. Great concept for a mix too!
wow, this is really really awesome. well done.
a lot I havent heard here but I sure will check that, nice stuff
Kings of Leon, TV On The Radio, The Black Keys, John Lee Hooker, Townes Van Zandt, Ray Charles and Otis Rush are highlights for me.
Hahaha. Βαμβακάρης on AOTM! I'm somewhere between proud and puzzled. Your pick is far from being a standard one as well. I hope my loathing for some of your picks (Nick Drake, Jose Gonzales and in general the recent acoustic ones) won't keep me from enjoying this. But your side two looks more like my kind of thing. Thanks for the link(s).
Welcome back! Your dreams were...well. You know.Don't know too much of what is on here, but what I know I love. Plus, I trust your taste.Seriously, glad you're back.<3 Sara
An epic!
Listening to this now, it is nice how you used the usual suspects to tell your narrative for you. I wish I had the patience to do this, impressive.
Creepy, but in a good way! Gotta check out some of these tracks right now. Thanks for another spine-tingling mix.
yowza, this looks flipping amazing - perfect return mix! welcome back, these mixes are obviously most welcome anytime in my house
Is that a true story or just a figment of your warped mind? Either way it's produced a pretty damn near perfect mix. Top marks Gabe...
I will not shilly shally around, this is a towering masterpiece. Wonderful throughout. It has more atmosphere than an atmosphere generator on mount atmosphere, set at maximum atmosphere generation. The music and notes are symbiotic. This is how to do it...Look, listen and learn -- bravo, I say, in fact I say it twice!
I'm with sammy. I have no idea if this is true or not, but it sure is a truly compelling mix.
This looks excellent and I'll be listening tomorrow for sure.
Looks amazing - downloading now. The title drew me in, the story is intriguing and the song choices look perfect.
