Comment:
"His heart was a brief, uncertain murmur. His thoughts were as gray as ashes. And in a little while he too...would be sleeping the big sleep." - Raymond Chandler, The Big SleepIt should be no surprise that the Seedy Motel mixes are inspired by noir writers like Chandler, Hammett, Jim Thompson, James Ellroy and the like. This final mix is pretty much a distillation of all the musical influences on the series. The first disc is much more urban-oriented, while the second is filled with noir instrumentals that evoke the feel of sitting in a seedy motel in some scummy neighborhood, far from home.
This is the final Seedy Motel mix. And it is, by far, the most successful of them all.
Contest: The song "Shake That" contains a famous line from an Academy Award-winning film. Tell us the line and name the film, and you'll win a copy of this mix.
Feedback:
A few odd choices, but overall pretty good. The little stretch from Otis to VU is what I like, the last bit on side 1 is what I don't, but you nearly make up for it with the closing five on disk 2. Nice that t you and Eliot picked the same Bill Withers tune for different themes.
Love the noir writers that inspired the series as well as the series.
dark and thrilling
Looks very cool.
the otis redding, tom waits, VU, mos def, thom yorke, beatles, leonard cohen, & serge gainsbourg are particular favorites here - this looks like another winner
Jeez!So many great tracks here 2,4,8,9,21...I could go on!Excellent.
Another thrilling mix Gabe, and again too many favourites to mention. And I'm delighted to be receiving an actual copy of this as the line "Get buzzed, get drunk, get crunked, get fucked up
Hit the strip club don't forget ones get your dick rubbed" is a line from the film 'Babe - Pig In The City'...
Hit the strip club don't forget ones get your dick rubbed" is a line from the film 'Babe - Pig In The City'...
Oh, you're sooooo close, Sammy. Except that line was used in the first Babe movie! Alas, not the Academy Award-winner I was looking for...
this one also deserves a MOW
Another great entry in the series, Gabe, with lots of killer picks. The VU track is especially a favorite.
Very good though I've no time for David Gray
I'm sure sitting in a seedy motel sounds better than it actually is in practice. I do like reading about such things very much, however. And the soundtrack looks excellent.
Awesome. Especially side 2.
