Comment:
We're off to Wales for a friend's wedding at the end of next month so I'm burning new listening material well in advance. Celebrating 1967 when the pop world started to grow up, or did it become more childish? The meaning of life was contained within a pill but the more one indulged the less meaning life had. You couldn't swallow the universe. Pop was pushed sideways and for a while it was all the better for it until the lethargic swill of prog rock bombarded us with its portentous boredom. At the time I was barely conscious of the world around me but then who was?Feedback:
This is fantastic! Love it all, but I'm especially fond of that Monkees track!
So many great songs on here, can't name them all. And my favourite Supremes-song!
this looks unutterably, uncommonly great - one of the best years for music EVER, this is loaded top to bottom with classics - any chance of a download link, good sir?
Wow, you guys! This is one seriously cool mix, and I actually recognize quite a few things here this time around (ha, ha)!
While I don't have the Smokey Robinson song, I really like I Second That Emotion. Also, great picks from the Beatles, Love, Syd-era Floyd, and Nico-era Velvets. I think Complicated is one of the greatest songs from the Stones' "psychedelic" late-'60s period. And you've got my favorite Who song of all time, the absolutely smokin' I Can See For Miles!!
Just one question: Is Paul Jones' Privilege the song covered by Patti Smith (a.k.a. Set Me Free) in '78??

Agree with Anthony--it was one of the greatest years in popular music ever and your mix picks some of the cream of the crop. Enjoy your friend's wedding!
Rupert, your liner notes warm the cockles of my heart. :) The Summer of Love - the summer I turned 10. Probably the best (and worst) time to be growing up. This one really takes me back. I am a fan of the 'slice of time' mix and I love almost everything on here. Link, maybe?
1967. What a year for music. My cockle swells with joy just looking at the playlist. Free Design. Kinks. Monkees. Cake. Kaleidoscope. Pink Floyd. Collage. The Knack. The Knack? Come on. Everyone knows they're an 80s band ;) That minor error aside, this gets two coveted thumbs ups from me and and the Darthman.
Wonderful, just wonderful. The elusive 'Wonder Years' once did a 1967 mix, and while I won't say either is better than the other, what a great double CD mix that would be...
Anthony said it.
The first time I heard the Who cut, the DJ started it from the faux commercial on the cut just prior, and the ran it into the actual cut. I flashed back on it the first time I heard the Ramones do End Of The Century... The Beach Boys cut is my personal favorite of theirs, bar none. Bar-Kays, PF, Stones and the Gorillaz... I mean Monkees... ah, me childhood years. This would have been my 6-7th year on the planet...
Byrds, VU, Beach Boys, Hollies, Kinks, and Love are some of my favorites here. Nicely done!
I don't know about being conscious of the world - unless it's the world of music. Some nice memories rekindled here.
I nearly missed this because of the problems on AOTM lately. Just with Heroes And Villains you have me. I can see for miles was also a favorite back in my pipeweed days.
What Funky Ratchet said!
