this was actually made for me by my friend olga (who knows i like cat power and mary timony alot)... several nights ago she was in the car with me when i rear-ended the car in front of me & smashed up the front of my wonderful stationwagon, so she made me this tape as a kind of consolation. she describes the first side as 'mellow, sad depressing sort of stuff' and the second side as 'happy or at least bittersweet songs very often about drugs (because those were the only happyish ones i could really find)'. meaning, i guess, that i can wallow in the mire of car crash self-pity for 45 minutes and then cheer up for 45 minutes. yay. thanks, olga. much appreciated. even though i don't really like tori amos or x-ray spex a whole lot, this is reallyfuckingood. (olga also adds that she mercifully left off guv'ner's "leave me be" and the sugarcubes' "motorcrash" for obvious reasons...) ps- if i spelled stuff wrong it's because olga has shitty handwriting.
