This was another mix that had been kicking around for over a year just waiting for a few more songs and some artwork. I finally finished it on New Year's Eve evening just in time to start off 2012 with a clean slate.

The art style (and mix name) were copied from the webcomic A Softer World, but the text and the photographs are mine. Like all the best webcomics A Softer World features a bonus alt-text blurb that you can only see by hovering your mouse pointer over the comic. I was having a devil of a time trying to figure out the best way to translate that effect into a non-interactive print medium when I realized the easiest solution was not to translate it at all.

I waffled on whether or not to conclude the mix with Kate Nash's 'Nicest Thing' or if I should add on 'Soon, My Friend' by M83 as a coda. What kind of emotional conclusion did I want: heartbroken resignation or irrational hope? In the end I decided to go with hope.
