Comment:
Tape for James Roberts. He didn't really have any requests (as far as I can remember!) so I just went with the flow. There are some West Australian bands that he may not have heard - Autopilot and Kingpin, who both appear on the "Kiss My WAMI, 2001" compilation. The Mark Seymour (he ex of Hunters & Collectors) track is on here because I was reminded of how good it was thanks to it being featured last week at the end of my new favorite (Aussie) tv show "The Secret Life of Us". Thanks to Rob Conroy, for the Flaming Lips track. Title courtesy of the Lucksmiths.Feedback:
very nice sue, as usual!
You're welcome, Sue. I feel as though the track I submitted is in privileged company. :-)
Once again, another satisfying selection of swinging songs, Sue. Does Steven Tyler sing back up on Pretty Ballerina? (yeah, yeah, dude looks like a ballerina)
very nice sue. i think requests probably just get in the way :)
In the US, Hunters & Collectors seems to have been unfortunately tagged as weird & new-wavey. They should have been hailed as thundering tribal rock alongside The Birthday Party's "Prayers on Fire". I'd be very interested to hear what their former members are doing now.
another nice mix. you always seem to include a song from the past that's especially nostalgic for me. this time around it's "she's got a new spell." telepathic much?
Oh yeah, that song kills me, too--it was the first song on the first in a series of ten tapes that I made for my ex-fiancee when we first got together ten years ago... *looks for nearby straight razor*
lo-fi: Apparently, Hunters, in Australia, are pretty popular - probably most people you ask (of a certain age, maybe not teenagers/young adults) have heard of them. I think they would be in the same league as Paul Kelly, who most people know. I just found out that Mark Seymour's brother Nick was in Crowded House - so the family is pretty well connected in the Australian music scene.
SueEW I Love Yer Brain!
Received this a few days ago and gave it time to sink in. A beguiling mixture of Ozpop, oddballs, old faithfuls and old skool indie. Lovely. Thank you, Sue.
I was a big Hunters fan in the late 80s (was it Fate that had the big muscled arm on the jacket? Good record).
I'm Allowed is my absolute favorite Buffalo Tom song. Love that you have The Man in Black covering the Jewish Elvis.
