31)A Hazy Shade of Winter-Simon and Garfunkel/ I remember what my father once said, he said "Son, life's simple, it's either cherry red or midnight blue." Oh, no, wait that was Lou Gramm's dad. What my dad once said, quite offhandedly, when I was a kid, was that the number 217 seems to pop up a lot in his daily life. For some reason, I've always remembered that, and have found it to be true in my life as well. So, here's a CD filled with all kinds of songs that share one thing in common: each of the 31 songs here is exactly 2:17 in length. Here's the scientific way in which I determined the running order: I wrote the titles down on 31 slips of paper and picked them out one at a time. I'm enjoying the result so far.

Nice Rich. Bizarre. I can't imagine spending as much time plotting a mix as this must have taken you, but I applaud your gesture. And yeah, this seems like a suitable item for trade.

Rob--It was temporary insanity on my part. Once I got started on the idea, I couldn't stop! But I don't see myself doing anything quite as...ambitious(?) for a little while!

Geoffrey--I do know of a 10-second long XTC track, which, once you pop it into your burner, could be a 13-second track (a lot of these were not listed as being 2:17, but when I popped the disk in, the computer listed them as being 2:17, so I went with the computer's judgement), but that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head. :)

Someone once told me that 714 pops up a lot -- other than on quaaludes, that is! Sgt. Friday's badge, for one. Check out hotel room numbers in movies and on tv! This is insanely cool!
