Comment:

Made this mix 12 years ago for a friend of mine. She wanted "Cool and Cheesy" music to listen to, and I did my best to accomodate her. I found most of the truly cheezy stuff at a few thrift stores around San Francisco and Berkeley, California on old scratchy 45s. It was meant to be sort of excruciating, but it actually works remarkably well. Stairway to Gilligan's Island has to be heard to be believed (it invariably offends most Zeppelin fans). Thank you Rob, for remembering who did the Tequila track. Does anyone else out there know who Dino, Desi and Billy are? (Rob, I'm looking in your direction). A word of warning: this mix requires a strong stomach, not for everyone.

Yes, I know who Dino, Desi and Billy are. :-) I had "I'm a Fool" on a Nuggets comp. (I'm not sure if I'm supposed to fulfill my full-on pop culture geek status and list each member's celebrity connection...) This looks great to me, though I admit I'm a sucker for cheesy '60s pop (unless we're talking Gary Puckett here, then I have to draw the line).

Excellent work Buglady. I've spent the better part of a day scouring thrift stores for stuff just like this.

Cheese Whiz! looks like real fun.

(P.S. Dizzy Dino, Desi & Billy were a mid-60's cross between the Monkees & the Beach Boys, the gimmick being their celebrity as sons of Dean Martin, Desi Arnaz, & - well, Billy's dad wasn't anyone famous but he was well-connected in the music industry.
Breezy, likable, carefree pop, by teenagers for teenagers.)

My source may not be right about this, but I was told that Billy was the son of Dean and Desi's real estate agent. Oh, and I have to add, this mix caused me to fall in love with that Partridge Family song...it is a true pop gem.

Okay, I guess I *was* supposed to be music-geek guy and supply that... apparently joey had no hesitation in that department. And yes, I believe your source was correct, buglady.

Yes, that Partridge Family song is pop perfection, especially the awesome harpsichord solo, followed by the hushed "I don't know what it's all about..." and then the burstful cry of "Yeah!!" before the final chorus. It gets me every time.
