Comment:
Mix for Ion Moe. Because I know that he likes female vocalists, I made this a every-other-vocalist-is-female-type mix - so that I start off with Ida (which features a female vocalist) and then male, and so on. Ion had two requests on here - Montage - which features, (although not really part of the group, officially - he did all the vocal arrangements) Michael Brown, of the Left Banke, and The Spinsters, who are a group from Perth, who have been compared to the Blake Babies (although I can't really see huge similarities). The other Perth bands on here are Spokaine and Bashful. I included Tom Morgan because I know that Ion likes godstar (at least I think he does, as it's on the mix he just made for me), and as Tom Morgan is a member of godstar, I thought I'd include a recent single, as I don't think it's available in the US. Thanks to A-lex, for the Mercury Rev pick, James Roberts, for Lesser Birds of Paradise, and Marty Andersen, for The CakeKitchen. Title courtesy of The Take - an aussie, female-fronted, post-punk band from the 80s, who's track comes off the "can't stop it" compilation of aussie post-punk which came out last year.Feedback:
Wow! I get to be the first to comment too! Looks great Sue. Can't wait to hear it. I'm sure it will occupy my tape deck for a long long time. I know you're not a huge fan of female vocalists, so I appreciate the sacrifice you've made ;)
Yeah, Ion, I'm not really a huge fan of them, but I did pick ones that I especially liked, so it's wasn't that hard.
uh, Michael Brown was not only "officially" a member of The Left Banke, he was the mastermind and the biggest part of the group, as well as the chief songwriter. Read the inside cover of "There's Gonna Be A Storm".
Uh, goldang, Michael Brown (as Sue was saying, if you actually take the time to read her comments) was not officially a member of MONTAGE, not the Left Banke. Trust me, Sue knows the Left Banke. In the meantime, Sue, another lovely mix. I'm not a huge fan of female vocalists, either, for some reason.
Thanks, Rob for supporting me! And yes, goldang, I *do* know the Left Banke (well, not personally, but you know what I mean). And I'd recommend to everyone to go and get yourself the MONTAGE cd - it's available on the Sundazed website (as well as fine record stores, where I got mine).
Ahh. Some old favorites here. "Car Wash Hair" is a great tune, and I can't tell you how much I used to love the Cakekitchen. Nice mix.
looks good, i gotta check out The Spinster and a couple of more here, but if you pick them they are probarbly good ;-)
fab mix, sue. i owe ion a mix as well, and this one makes my task all the more daunting. and yes, that aussie post-punk comp is great.
this looks great!
this is superb! i love those hood and buckley picks.
Great mix all around. I'm glad to see you like the Cakekitchen track--I've been listening to them a lot recently.
