Comment:

Another all-Aussie mix, for Gerry McDonald and Johnny Software. I've included some new purchases/acquisitions on here, such as the Hummingbirds (got it for $8 bucks, a bargain in Australia!), The Stems (got it free, from Kim W., who released it on his House of Wax label, and had some extras sitting around in his house, so I sweet talked my way into getting one! thanx, Kim - oh, and that's how I also got the Summer Suns (his band) one - Calpurnia, on vinyl, although I was going to buy it, but because he didn't have any of the original sleeves left, he made me a homemade one, and gave it to me instead - thanx again!), Richard Easton - got that one (I had to buy it!) cos he has songs called "Perth" and "N. Perth" on it! (& cos it's good, and Pete from Sodastream plays with him), and Michael Carpenter - another bargain find - I think it was so cheap because it had been sitting in the store for ages and no one bought it - until I dug it up. I included Jimmy Little (the aboriginal singer who's been around for over 40 yrs) right after David McComb, because a few wks back, my co-worker asked me if I knew a song ("Bury me deep in love"), and I told her it was by the Triffids (David McComb's band), but she said, no, the song she heard was sung by someone else, and wasn't as good as the original - it turned out it was by Kylie (yup, the same one) and Jimmy Little - the part of it she didnt' like was the Kylie part; so when I saw that I had a Jimmy Little song, I had to include it, oh, and David McComb - he did this song back in '96/97, when everyone thought he was dying (as if to say, "hey, I'm still around!") - well, it turned out he was very ill, and did unfortunately pass away in '99. Title courtesy of Karl Smith (of Thermos Cardy & Sodastream).

Thanks Sue. This looks absolutely great. I don't actually know any of the artists here, and that's the point. Can't wait to hear it

Another great one, you sweet little sweet talker. You've certainly acclimated yourself to the Aussie music scene. Speaking of new acquisitions, I took a chance on a Stems album at the swap meet just last week. It turned out to be a good investment.

yea sue!!!! jimmy little is very very good. he's one of the only people who gets regular undisputed air play in my house. everything else is great too- nothing like an all australian mix to get the patriotism running, which is then naturally conteracted with the budget and how dear old johnnie's planning to take the blind people's pensions away. don't blame me- i'm not old enough to vote!!!! anyway...a beautiful mix

And you can't blame me either, Rosie - as I'm not yet an Aussie cit. - although, in July, I can apply for citizenship - which I'll do, but I would *never* vote for John Howard!

Great job. Like New Zealand, Australia produces great music. BTW--your VB disk will be mailed this week.
