Comment:
Like many, Led Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore" is where the voice of Sandy Denny is most familiar. Sandy was invited to replace Judy Dyble in Fairport Convention. Her lively and boisterous personality had an immediate effect on the quiet Fairports; her singing and songwriting added a new dimension to their sound and she spurred particularly Richard Thompson into a more adventurous and unique style of playing and writing. Sandy recorded four albums with Fairport. Towards the end of 1969, Sandy left Fairport and formed a new group called Fotheringay with her husband-to-be Trevor Lucas. This group made only one LP, Fotheringay, and broke up towards the end of 1970. Sandy then spent the next three years recording and appearing as a solo artist. Her voice was one of a kind: haunting, powerful, penetrating, ethereal and sophisticated. On April 18, 1978, while at a friend's house, Sandy suffered a brain hemorrhage and went immediately into a coma, from which she never recovered. She died on April 21, 1978, aged 31.
Feedback:
good
wow! this is great &
a nice tribute
a nice tribute
tremendous. I think the first track is my very favourite of hers.
Hmmm, nice choices for a deserving subject.
God, what a voice.
really good.
*DOH!* (Homer Simpson making a temporary appearance here) You scooped me, Tom! This was one of the next mixes I had in mind. I'll happily accept a copy of yours in the meantime, my friend, if it's okay with you... You've *got* to let me know what I can do for you, dubbing-wise.
But Rob this isn't a race. Yes I will toss this into your pile. The turnaround time has been shortened for dupes.
Oh, I know, Tom... but my mix would look substantially like this one... not that such a phenomenon stopped me from doing a Birthday Party mix after lo-fi...
Each of us puts our own little spin on it. Thus while it may cover the same theme and contain much of the same content, it is still unique.
Sweet stuff.
Great choice for your encyclopedia--I love Sandy Denny's voice.
Wow! The Encyclopedia's back! A wonderful talent, and a great voice; I still rank it among the greatest musical tragedies of all time that Fotheringay never completed their second album.
This is an awesome CD! Excellent choices and Sandy Denny is great!
A fabulous mix of a most worthy artist -- what else does one expect from RSE2.0? only one quibble -- where's fairport's epic 'a sailor's life', arguably her greatest performance, also inexplicably missing from the sandy box set.
God, Sandy Denny makes my knees go all wobbly. Honest.
