Comment:
Obscure 90's one-hit wonders from my collection. Some of these are debatable whether they were hits at all, others (i.e. Black Lab) could be considered by some to have had more than one hit (Black Lab had "Wash It Away" and "Time Ago" in some areas). And some are of the "I-can't-believe-these-weren't-hits-but-they-sure-as-hell-should-have-been-so-I'm-including-them" variety. At any rate, see how many of these YOU can remember...Feedback:
I remember most of them..because I have or had most of the CDs...good stuff..black lab should be coming out with new stuff soon..I wonder whatever happened to flick?? Their first EP was excellent and they were supposed to have relocated here but then I haven't heard anything since..anyway nice mix!
I remember Black Lab too, I actually saw them
at a rock fest back in '98. The For Squirrels song is good too.
Failure, such a failure no one knew their
other material cuz the album that "stuck on you" is on is AWESOME!!
stuck on you is ok, but isn't the best song on it.

whiskeytown? one-hit wonders??? and jawbreaker??? jaysis!
Good call on the Orbit... For Squirrels had a minor follow-up hit with "8:02PM," Treble Charger got airplay with "American Psycho" and "Brand New Low," and Failure had a few different hits including a cover of Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence," "Every Me, Every You" and "Pure Morning."
Black Lab had a third single as well called "She Loves Me"
Quinn, "Every Me, Every You" and "Pure Morning" were both by a band called Placebo.
Amazing mix though. I play a lot of these on my 90's Modern Rock show (10-Midnight saturdays http://www.106vic.org )
End shameless plug

Beej, what a coincidence this is! I was on the Exec. Staff for 106-VIC for two years prior to graduating from Ithaca. In fact, I had a long-running specialty show called The U.K. Blitz specializing in Britpop and U.K. Indie--perhaps you remember it? Anyhow, I'm glad others are keeping up the tradition of GOOD specialty programming on VIC!
As for the Black Lab song, I do remember the song as I have the album, but I can't recall ever hearing "She Loves Me" on the radio. I think Black Lab and Treble Charger and a couple of other ones on my mix here had more "regionalized hits".
As for the person who liked Fantastic Planet, the album containing Failure's "Stuck on You," I couldn't agree with your assessment more. Fantastic Planet was one of the most overlooked albums of the mid 90's. In a way, it was the post-grunge equivalent to Radiohead's OK Computer--both "concept albums" of sorts that eschewed normal song structures while still being firmly grounded within the rock cadre. Definitely one to check out!
