Comment:

May 22, 1999: The third instalment in a series of all-girl mixes. There's a quote from Buffy the Vampire Slayer right before "Awful" and I'm proud of the segueway.

Cool. Plenty of excellent picks. Can never get enough of that girlie pop. I included that incredibly catchy Les Rita Mitsouko track on my recent International Girls mix

Thanks! I can't seem to get enough of the girlie pop, either (hence the series, which continues to this day - "Pretend to Be Nice" from the Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack is such a guilty pleasure).

You're welcome. I'll have to check out that Josie song. I saw the movie and thought some of the songs were pretty catchy. The original Pussycats did some good stuff as well, although it's harder to find. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series.

Yeah, even the original Pussycats theme is pretty catchy (Juliana Hatfield and Tanya Donnelly covered it a while back). It makes sense that the songs from the new film were great, though; you can't go wrong when Jason Falkner, Adam Schlesinger and Matthew Sweet are involved.

Nice choice with Lisa Germano, I haven't seen a lot of that on artofthemix (to my displeasure). But I hesitate- Hole was a formerly good band, why the recent poorly-executed tracks? (ie, Awful and Celeb Skin)

Yeah, not many people like the Hole songs. I do, and I can't explain why, except to say that I like a lot of glossy pop (often poorly executed at that). I never used any Hole tracks before Live Through This, anyway. I really have no street cred.

I like those Hole picks too. When I first heard Celebrity Skin it wasn't what I expected but (and I hate to make this comparison) I'm sure fans were surpised when The Beatles started quoting the Tibetan Book Of The Dead and Peter Fonda on acid! Love that Kate Bush song, btw!
