Comment:

November 22, 1998: This tape was made for my friend Sean (the same person for whom Andrew Forbes made If Sean Were A Gunslinger...). Sean is a great fan of Dylan Thomas; take the first letter of each song title, in the order they appear, and you'll have a line from "If I Were Tickled By The Rub of Love" ("This world is half the devil's and my own"). I couldn't find a song that started with an apostrophe, so I guess I cheated. Slightly.

fantastic theme executed with some great picks. i dig the poetic reference, but the title still cracks me up for its total cheesefactor. it's very bomp-chicka=bau-bau, which is a good thing.

Thanks, Teapin. I'm not sure why I settled on that particular Thomas line - other than the number of letters involved made for exactly the right number of songs for a 90-minute tape. The tape title is admittedly cheesy - good thing I didn't use the poem's title in its entirety - but at the time, I liked its filthy connotations. (The cover I gave Sean was taken from one of those '60s Golden Stamp educational workbooks - the stamp in question showed bees reproducing. I think the copy I have has two bees fighting. If I wasn't a bit wary of updating the mix and having my name show up once more on the recent submissions list, I'd upload the picture. I will eventually, though.)

Congrats on getting honorable mention this week! For an "apostrophe" you might have considered the Frank Zappa song of the same name (though that wouldn't technically read the same...) ;-)

Thanks, Scott! The apostrophe suggestion is great - I would have printed it on the track list as " ' " anyway - but sadly, Sean doesn't like Frank Zappa. Sacrificing his taste for consistency only gets me sarcasm (ah, me!).
