Comment:
May 28, 2000: I made this tape for Andrew; the songs are tied together with an extremely loose "creepy" theme (title, lyrics, sound, whatever). Some of the tracks are actually just sad. And then at the end of each side, a Top 40 pop song to lighten the mood, although these might be just as unsettling as the rest.Feedback:
This tape was excellent for washing dishes, although my upstairs neighbors may have begged to differ.
I can't believe they weren't into Kris Kross.
This is an insanely eclectic mix, but I feel a strange urge to put a copy together for myself. Hmm..
Please do! Or you can ask Andrew Forbes for one (um, that's fine with you, right Andy? I'll foot the bill.....). That way you'll have it complete with quotes.
Any mix that contains "True Love Travels on a Gravel Road" by the Afghan Whigs I feel the need to post kudos to (that is an amazingly haunting track, IMHO) Also love the REM and Chemical Bros. selections. :)
Thanks, Gossamer. I love that whole Avondale Road EP, but "True Love" is indeed amazingly haunting (I've put it on a few people's mixes over the years). Also, the version of "Leave" that's on this tape is actually a remix, very stripped down and, yes, haunting.
I should add, while the Britney Spears track has a very loose connection with the theme (its title), the Kris Kross song was stuck on there to tease Andrew about his past love for Top 40 R&B and hip-hop (early high school). Sorry for selling you out, Andy.
